Quinta do Crasto

Reserva Old Vines Vinhas Velhas Douro Red Blend 2016

Portuguese Duoro from +70 year old vines with a dark inky color; takes about an hour to open up with scents of vanilla, plum and black currant. On the pallet, the wine begins very austere and rustic, gradually evolves to progressive layers of dark fruit, vanilla, cocoa, leather and piercing acidity. This a full bodied, complex wine with firm tannins and a rigid structure, medium plus alcohol. Really enjoyed this wine and pair’s excellent with red pasta and dishes rich in animal fat; do give it time to open up though, it’ll pay-off for sure.

Monastero Suore Cistercensi

Benedic Red Blend 2019

Just like the 2018 vintage, this is basically a blend of mostly Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo with a small amount of Merlot added. The wine pours a translucent garnet. On the nose, the lightest touch of funk enhances the ample dark red cherry fruit. Lilies and chrysanthemums and dry dusty earth as well. On the palate, red cherry fruit is dominant and seems to overpower just about everything else right now. Medium - tannin with medium + acid. It provides an effortless pairing with food. A rather simple but charming little wine in the most wonderful ways. Giampiero Bea consults. — 3 years ago

Year when we bought our home and moved to NJ. Opening now as we just left NJ for TX. Still young and required a bit of time to open up. Dark berries, tobacco, pencil, wet leaves, plum. Long finish. — 3 years ago

Broc Cellars

Sonoma County White Zinfandel 2019

Colour is reminiscent of Kool-Aid or push-up ice pops. Flavour reminds me of those, too. I’m getting cherry, watermelon, San Pellegrino. Been wanting to try this for a long, long time 🤤 — 3 years ago

Margerum

Sybarite Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Outstanding value. This is acidic and tropical. Huge amount of flavor with some stone fruit, tart apple, not much grass at all, but well balanced. Margerum’s wines were some of my first in exploring SB terroir and this one reminds me of the excellence he had at wine cask. — 3 years ago
