Krug

Vintage Brut Champagne Blend 2004

Happy 8th Anniversary to the love of my life!! We’re celebrating with a bottle of Krug Vintage 2004

To underscore the unique features of each Vintage Champagne, Krug assembles a blend of expressive, representative wines from the year and then matures the final product for at least 10 years before release. This particular wine spent 12 years on the lees. It was disgorged in 2016.

The 2004 Vintage was named “Luminous Freshness” paying homage to the summer sunrise and vibrant citrus notes it exudes. This blend consists of 39% Chardonnay, 37% Pinot Noir, and 24% Meunier varieties, each playing a role in the final style.

With a golden hue, this wine offers developed aromas of baked apple, lemon peel, grapefruit pith, dried white blossom, blanched almond, brioche, toast, marzipan, and wet slate. It’s balanced and complex, with a lingering finish and delicate, long-lasting mousse.

This wine pairs wonderfully with the slow-cooked halibut in a creamy, fennel and lemon sauce alongside a zucchini and squash salad. The intensity and richness of the wine and food work well in concert.

R. López de Heredia

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2008

Even though it was 14 years old, I should have let it open more. Changed a lot over an hour—for the better. The end of the bottle was strawberry laffy taffy. Started with a simple wine of cherries and strawberries. Added depth, oak, leather, and more as time went on. — 2 years ago

Tenuta di Collosorbo

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

A steal at the price point at a local restaurant. Cherries and leather with a nice tannic finish. Age will improve for sure. Paired with Bolognese on papparadelle. — 2 years ago

Vietti

Castiglione Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

Dry but not too much, big and bold and needs time to breathe. About 40min and it was delicious. Price was about 45 or so but it was lovely for a nice occasion. — 2 years ago

Château Haut-Bergey

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Perfectly mature. Soft pruney fruit, gingerbread spice, mellow chocolatey tannines. Dashes of oak, mocha and smoke, as well. Not overly complex, nor complicated. A fun wine.
Very good QPR.

Machete Petite Sirah Blend 2018

Love the bad ass label and name. You need a machete to cut through this luscious wine. Enjoying this at Blackwolf Run at Kohler — 2 years ago

Sandlands

Lodi Red Table Wine 2020

Popped and poured, consumed over three days and best on Day 2. No formal notes. This is the third vintage of Sandlands “Red Table Wine” from Lodi and it has become a “must cop” for me. Endowed with lovely fruit and zippy acid, it’s very versatile and a sublime pairing with a variety of meals. A combination of three varieties and three vineyards in three equal parts; Cinsault from the Bechthold (1886), Carignane from Spenker Ranch (1900) and Zinfandel from Kirschenmann (1915); 12 barrels and one 500L puncheon produced. — 2 years ago

Lucy Santa Lucia Highlands Rosé of Pinot Noir 2021

Wonderful rose complex but not heavy. Hints of grapefruit. Nice for a summer evening on the patio. At Sandpiper in La Jolla Shores. — 2 years ago
