All bow to our host who broke out the big guns for a spicy cod meal he prepared. As the only wine I’ve ever witnessed such grotesque price appreciation (from 20 to 100, within a five year span?), it’s hard not to project all kinds of feelings & opinions about it. Still, it remains a wine of reflection & complexity, not to mention of a unique deep copper color I’ve always adored. Such waves of strange & wonderful flavors, including dried hibiscus, turmeric, licorice & porcini mushrooms. Moderate acidity, like an elegant aunt who dresses just right. Great acid, lime, key lime, white flowers, peach, hint of flint. The Kabinett is noticeably sweeter than the 1,000L which I prefer, but the acidity really holds it together. Still, really impressive and great QPR. — 2 years ago

A very solid wine for a difficult year. Deep dark ruby. Juicy blackberries, black cherries, currants, aged leather, tobacco. A bit chalky with a full mouthfeel. Depth and structured with smooth tannins and bright acidity. Drinking well now after 45 min decant. Really enjoyable! — 2 years ago

N: Dirteee! Musky cherries, loam, tilled soil, liquorice, forest, balsam, Big Nose!
Smell that for 1/2 an hr. you’re in Tuscany.
P: Very bright, tobacco, Cherries, liquid earth, it has that existential Chianti otherness that we crave. The acidity craves protein, tomatoes, ya. Tannins are well integrated but present.

Amazing stuff. Blue fruits, touch of cedar and wet earth on the nose; palate is big and chewy - tannins almost fully integrated, blue fruits and unctuous. This one is only going to get better. — 2 years ago
