Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Rosé 2006

Dom - is it cliche? Hell no! This is as good as Rosé gets!! wonderful soft cherry and berry, spices, chalk - the autolytics are there but in the background so they don’t destroy the fruit or voluptuousness -ness - ness!! — 4 years ago

Julien Sunier

Régnié Gamay 2018

Notes on the nose of dark raspberry, grape candy, black cherry, a touch of spice and flowers. There’s also an earthy meatiness which starts off stronger, but then quiets down and melts into the background. On the palate blackberry compote with black licorice, singed blackberry bramble, and dark flowers, a smattering of red berries and few sprigs of herbs to the mix. The fruit had a nice balance being just at the midpoint of being tart and ripe.

Paired with focaccia and cheese plate.

Krug

Grande Cuveé 167ÈME Édition Brut Champagne Blend

Always love Krug, but the 167 is a touch tighter than usual. Still very nice butterscotch and white fruit. Gentle but certainly there bubbles. Great minerality and a bit of yeast. Long finish and delicious. Perfect with fried chicken. — 4 years ago

G.D. Vajra

Albe Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

Saw this in the Delectable thread the other day and realized I haven’t tried the -15s with food and a long decanting. In a nutshell, high quality, too young, as expected. Light ruby slight brick color; youth- and powerful nose of not tar&roses but sharper, like diesel exhaust & Tom Ford’s Rose Prick - an excellent mix; very high acids and tannins on the palate, dominated by unripe strawberries; finish is of medium length and quite chest-burning despite the indicated 13.5% alc. content. As 2015 was very hot in the summer, one might expect overripe grapes and lower acidity, but not in this beauty. A half-a-decade or more in the cellar should do wonders. — 4 years ago

Tenuta delle Terre Nere

-Il Quadro delle Rose- Feudo di Mezzo Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese 2014

As always, very good, careful hand in the cellar is evident, but need a little bit more vibrance for me - perhaps as a lower elevation Contrada, ripeness and alcohol are overpowering nervous acidity — 4 years ago

Thanks for feedback @Eric Guido - I think I am out of 2014s over here in Japan. On to the 2016s!

Dönnhoff

Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Spätlese Riesling 2008

Lithe, graceful, packed full of sunny apricot and apple, lemon, honey, mint, smoke and cool stone. Still packing a wallop on day 2 and would develop for a decade or more I’m sure. — 4 years ago

Beautiful.

Raul Pérez

Atalier Rías Baixas Albariño 2018

Wonderful nose! Smells like I’m standing on a breezy ocean coast. Salted Meyer lemon flavors that wrap around the tongue and impart a late arriving mouth watering acidity. Terrific with trout. — 4 years ago

Espectacle del Montsant

Montsant Garnacha 2014

Another world famous Wine Nerd Herd Virtual Tasting this time on the docket was Spanish wines. This 100% Grarnacha showed in full force...caramel and violets on the nose-delicate in so many ways, not overly oaked, such fine balance and precision that speaks of a hybrid of old and new world. Drinks well now, yet has many many years ahead of it. @thewinenerdherd — 4 years ago
