A completely different bottle than the one I tasted 14 weeks ago. This was deeply intense and incredibly complex on the nose. Sweet red and black fruit, spice, dried herbs, and red flowers. Abv was elevated on the nose. The palate was vibrant and powerful for about 15 minutes and then slowly faded out. This did not have the structure of the #1947 #drc #grandsechezeaux I tasted next to it but the palate was just as sweet and was very complex. A peppery, meaty mist settles on rosemary and cedar nettle,dried red cherry, until the whole resembles a salami of substance. There is a slight mustard dust as well as a dry, cattle patch with leather and dried cranberry. Medium mouthfeel with exquisite complexity, a pointed violet wrapped in sage and exploding with dried raspberry and underripe strawberries. The "KING OF THE HILL" these days when it comes to premox-free, super clean, terroir-specific white #Burgundies. Pierre-Yves' 2005 #Corton #Charlemagne was incredibly sleek and linear which is why my initial impression was that of a more recent, much younger Chablis. Perhaps my favorite white Burg vineyard, Corton Charlemagne straddles the characteristics of traditional Côte de Beaune whites with their generous, ample body with Chablis and their steely mineral structure.
