Excellent Merlot, showed very well against some difficult competition. Medium ruby red with high intensity. No decant but nose was showing a mix of dark cocoa, baking spices and dark berries. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) with a rich and full body. Long finish showing similar characteristics to the nose. Delicious merlot as always. Drink till 2026. — 10 years ago

So...I am officially out of daily drinkers and this one came into play. This falls within our category between think twice 🤔 & don't touch 🙅🏼. @Larissa Mitchell gave me the go ahead b/c she didn't care for the timeshare like presentation (& pressure) we got to purchase at the end of the tour. Quintessa makes a fine wine - no salesmanship needed.

TN - The nose is strong with cassis and Rutherford dust. Makes me feel like I am laying on the side of the Silverado Trail. Decanted 1.5 hours and it needed it. Very silky on the tongue and dark ruby color. — 10 years ago

In honor of game 6, I am opening this bottle from @David A Lentine to help an anxious cubs fan get through the next couple of hours. Thanks to @LM Segal for the decant time heads up to align with game time. I am an hour in and going to let it sit a bit more to soften. @Paul T brought the big guns with Kershaw, but the cubs have too many sticks. Thanks for bolting to Orlando @Daryl Calhoun - no invite?!? #iaintafraidofnogoat Thanks again @David A Lentine for sharing this one. TN Update - working on 3 hours decanted and it is starting to shine. Soft on the palette with black cherries, strong raspberries, and vanilla. I have to add very juicy - haven't had something with this mouthwatering effect before. On the nose raspberry and flower box come through on this ruby gem. — 10 years ago

68 degrees in Chicago in November, the Chicago Cubs are the World Series Champs in an amazing comeback after being down 3-1, and I'm drinking an SQN Papa sitting on my deck after a spectacular Cubs rally with about 5 million other Cub fans in Grant Park. Doesn't really get much better. Oh, and the wine is singing ("Go Cubs Go, Go Cubs Go, Hey Chicago, What Do You Say, Cubs Have Finally Gone All The Way"). The nose on this wine is well worth the price of admission. Simply stunning. Manfred is still the mark for all winemakers to shoot for. — 10 years ago

Day 2 for this Cab Reserve. Opened last night to celebrate the Cubs game, and like the game it was disappointing. Flash forward to tonight and the edge is off the wine and the flavors are coming through. Paso has a tough time with Cab, but Margene does a decent job Alc 15%, so go easy. Thinking the fact the bottle is better indicates the Cubs will be better #iaintafraidofnogoat! Go CUBS! — 10 years ago

It's Baseball & BBQ night. Go Giants! I Coravin'ed four wines to see which would pair better with pork ribs, pulled pork, seasoned baked beans & slaw. Started with the Pinot...that worked pretty well w/ the ribs but not necessarily the spicy beans. Then, the 07 Hope & Grace Malbec. That went ok. I think the H&G Malbec is perfect solo. Third...was the 09 Ridge Carignane. This was the more classic pairing...yum. However, the 05 DuMol Syrah was the real winner for all four of us. It's worked well with the beans spice and the BBQ sauce. Handled both worlds of strong spice in the beans and the sweet and light spice in the BBQ sauce. Fun experiment. — 10 years ago
