Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2016

Quite light garnet wide terracotta , garnet rim. Quite a lot of dry spice , nutmeg , star anis , red cherry, raspberry , red currant , earthy hints . After a while a bit more leafy , smoky on the nose. On the palate this is quite light and direct in style , raspberry , red cherry and those earthy , granite touches . This has fresh acidity and fine , light tannins . Reasonable earthy , spiced finish . Certainly ready and on this showing will probably last ok another 5 or so years. Not the most complex , overall I found it a little pedestrian, but still showing ok , but no need to wait any longer , I don’t see this improving . — 15 days ago

Cloudy Bay

Te Wahi Central Otago Pinot Noir 2017

Better than 2018, the 2017 is pure savoury meaty spice. This could pass as a serious burgundy. Light but powerful, mushroom funkiness, bright cherry. High acidity, med fine grained tannin, and very long. Fresh and alive. Reverberates….but also serious?? — 9 months ago

Rippon Vineyard

Mature Vine Pinot Noir 2020

Quite light ruby garnet , wide garnet rim . On the nose this shows red currant , wild strawberry , dry spice , dried rose , herbal touches and tangerine peel . The palate is quite elegant with wild strawberry , red currant and those fresh herbal hints , with just a touch of bitterness . Fresh acidity , and slightly gritty tannins . Quite refreshing with good length and balance, that touch of bitterness doesn’t detract from the rest of wine. This is quite linear and focused, perhaps slightly strict , uncompromising in style , but probably has a few years left in the cellar and might improve over the next 2-3 years and last well a further 5 or so. — 23 days ago

Central Otago Pinot Noir 2021

Pinot Noir from the Central Otago region of New Zealand is definitely worth seeking out! Burgundy in style. Mushrooms, Forrest floor, graphite, ripe berries, and bubblegum. — 4 months ago
