Blackcurrant

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Dark rubi robe, nose of dark cherries, cocoa, blackcurrant, cedar, asian spices and wood spice. Very elegant and same time bold in the mouth, complex, good length. This is classical claret at its best. Was decanted 45 minutes before our fois gras and Simmental steak was served. Great stuff. Was our Mother’s day meal. — 6 months ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

Very deep ruby , ruby rim, shockingly young . Very closed still , mineral , creme de cassis , dark and meaty , grafite , chestnut . On the palate very tight and young , cassis with dark blackcurrant , cedar , tobacco and granite . Concentrated but balanced at the same time , gritty tannins , balanced acidity. Long and complex on the finish , with mineral , grafite notes . A great wine surely , this is so young and with huge potential. I suppose more impressive than enjoyable at this stage. This needs time in bottle, maybe come back in 5 years and will last a further 20-30 . — 10 months ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Medium deep ruby core , medium wide ruby garnet rim . Quite slow and fat tears. Quite exotic nose , slightly high toned, lots of ripe spicy blackcurrant , dark cherry , blackberry and underneath a grafite and earthy note , marine scents also . On the palate round, ripe and sweet dark fruits, blackcurrant , blackberry and dark cherry , touches of grafite and cigar box. Surprisingly good , even refreshing acidity , ripe ample tannins; there is great intensity here. Balanced alcohol even though it is quite decadent and rich, lots of glycerin . Very long and succulent but balanced finish with touches of mineral and tobacco. The plumpness and exoticism does come across as pretty atypical for Latour , though it is a real success for the vintage and an undeniably enjoyable wine. Drinking ok now , with a decant of an hour or two but really did improve over the 5 hours we had it open. Will obviously last and improve over the next 20 years and I’m sure go further still . — 2 years ago

Château Gloria

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

2020 vintage. Another excellent Gloria. While it may not have the intensity and depth of the extraordinary 2016, there is a lot to like here. Blackcurrant, blueberries, blackberries, cedar wood, graphite, and the most subtle hint of vanilla jump out of the glass. In the mouth it has a light feel about it , even if it features concentrated black fruit due to the freshness that characterises this wonderful vintage. Purity, balance and elegance are key here while maintaining classic Saint-Julien power. Definitely of Grand Cru Classé quality. This estate is on a hot streak and still affordable. Highly recommended. Abv. 13,5% . — 2 years ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Austin Hope

Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

This wine has a deep ruby hue with viscous tearing.

Aromas and flavors are highly expressive with notes of Luxardo black cherry, dried blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, juicy plum, violet, molasses, mocha, coconut, vanilla, clove, nutmeg, cardamom, dill, and leather.

On the palate, this wine is dry with a hint of residual sugar that has a softening effect. It has medium(+) acidity, a full body, high alcohol (15% ABV!), high tannins that are smooth and velveteen. The finish lingers.

It’s a rounded, full-bodied, and opulent expression that epitomizes the wines of Paso Robles.

Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2005 Palmer, picked from September 9 to October 10, remains deep in color. It has a lovely, intense bouquet with blackcurrant pastilles, raspberry, violet and juniper. It blossoms in the glass, gaining vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, structured and dense, strangely Pomerol-like in style, with touches of black pepper and truffle furnishing the finish. Robust and muscular, it lacks a bit of flair and precision (like many wines of this vintage). I would afford this another couple of years in the cellar. Tasted at the Palmer vertical at the château.
