Just concluded the annual Fall seclusion at our cabin in the Rangeley lakes region of Maine, mobile service up there is mostly non-existent, after several days I am posting again. Notes are somewhat brief, as my focus is relaxing and watching the Common Loons swimming and diving in the cove in front of our camp.
Solid producer, no new notes:
Nose has sliced brioche, cut red apple, bruised pear, warm caramel candy and wet limestone.
Palate has quince jam on faintly buttered brioche, bruised yellow apple, dried bread dough with a lingering touch of acidity/minerals with a long finish. Best as it warms and gains more exposure to air. — 5 months ago
Awesome nose. Toasty, brioche, spices. So deep. So clean. Smells like a stream. Some peach skin. So much complexity and breadth. Mindblowing nose. So juicy and filled with citrus fruits and lovely breadiness. So pure and tangy. Sappy as all can be on the finish. And that finish. Whoahhhh boy. It is long. — 6 months ago
Such a terrific vintage for this and a worthy successor to the stunning 2008. Nose is deep toasty brioche. Very fine. Smells like a Gougere. Just awesome. Some white cherries, some other luscious fruits. Apricot, green apple. Super mineral and awesome spice. So airy and clean. Palate is so elegant and sappy. Wow the elegance on this is something. Really elite. Most elegant Caillez I’ve had. Beautiful sap and purity. Amazing purity of fruit. Apples, citrus. So complex. Fine mousse. Terrific acid and a wonderful opulence to it. Real depth, power and concentration here but this is elegant as a feather. Just sick. It’s still got so much more to express. Incredible salty finish that takes over your mouth. Lowballing this maybe. — a month ago

Solid producer, no new notes:
Nose has wet strawberry, orange peel, ripe stone fruits, pineapple core and light, fresh brioche notes.
Palate has strawberry-raspberry mash (light), orange/grapefruit pith, ripe peach (light) and wonderful limestone backbone. — 5 months ago
Nose has partially oxidized red apple peel, lightly buttered & toasted brioche, moist limestone gravel and day old lemon zest.
Palate has red apple, lemon, dried cherry, lemon pith, (light) dried strawberry with a rich and long finish. Oak aging is not obtuse, but subdued and complimentary. What a great bottle, still young with years ahead!
Dosage 3.6G/L | Bottled 31 March 2014 | Bottle No. 720/1004
100% Pinot Meunier | 100% Damery fruit | 100% Oak-aged (Damery sourced oak)
(I believe this version to be mostly 2013 vintage harvest.) — 9 months ago
Thanksgiving 2020; a quiet day with just my wife and the kitties, hopefully 2021 brings family and dear friends back for group enjoyment of this Holiday.
Nose has effervescent limestone water, crusty sourdough bread, excessively zested lemon and lemon creme pie.
Palate has saline lemon juice, lemon slice + peel, an amazing level of acidity but equally balanced; what a finish, Wow! — 3 months ago
Green Apple, lots of citrus acidity, fresh zesty fruits and more minerals than the Caillez Lemaire Eclats tasted alongside. Some rubber band and seashells. Fresher, but a touch unresolved by comparison. On the whole a real favorite and a great value. — 6 months ago
Excellent champagne price for value — a year ago
Meg Herring
This could be the perfect everyday Champagne. Classic brioche, a little bit of strawberry, apple, lemon. A little earthy. Almost like a plum peel. And wet leaves. Everything is very balanced and orderly. No details stands out too much. Plus the great price, I think it’s ideal for everyday consumption. — 14 days ago
