Another vintage, another lovely Chianti Classico Riserva from Castello di Monsanto which continues to be a benchmark for wines from San Donato in Poggio. Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days and consistent over both. The 2019 Monsanto CCR pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, baked mixed berries, dried green herbs, red carnations, dried gravely earth. On the palate, the wine is dry. Medium+ tannin and Medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely pairing with almost any red sauce dish. Drinking well now and I expect it will continue to do so through 2034. — 3 years ago

2012 Il Brigante from Castello di Amorosa is an spin on zin. I mean to say it is phenomenal! Spicy and full flavor. Loads of black cherry and blackberry at first then followed by a tangy (not bitter) blast of perfection in a glass. The spice and vanilla take the tongue hostage and finish it off it a moderately dry oak and earthy ending. My God this is good wine. And affordable! Look out San Antonio winery, I have a new favorite!!!! Castello di Amorosa baby!!!!!!!!! — 8 years ago

Absolutely fantastic on point classic Chianti, still primary. Heady sour cherry fruit, a floral note, with undertones of mushroom, leather, sandalwood, black tea. Energetic bright acidity. Awesome, and likely better in 5 yrs — 9 years ago
2016 vintage.
80% Sangiovese, 13 % Merlot and 7% Malvasia Nera.
Dark, shiny red ruby in colour.
Red/black berries, cinnamon and pomegranate on the nose.
Bright acidity and the tannins are softening.
Dark cherries, leather, black flowers, walnuts and a light, herbal earthiness.

Night 1 of the Fall WNH event in San Antonio. What a killer start to the extended weekend, all courtesy to Shawn and Jennifer for hosting! Tonight was Italian wines.
This was my second contributed bottle. AG rates this 100pts. Just a few years from its prime drinking window! Red and black fruit medley. So ripe and earth driven. The entry and mid palate are bright fruit but the finish turns dark and tannic...strawberry tart & crushed potpourri. I would love to try this again in 5-7yrs! — 8 years ago
Amazing, smooth and classic Chianti. — 9 years ago
