Needs a few years but is accessible now. Nose needs little coaxing, comes out of the gate with bright cassis, a little of that cool, leafy thing that mid-range Bordeaux can have, gravel, and cedar. The fruit deepens with air. I love the fore-palate, with dense dark berry fruit, but in a mid-weight frame. Back half of the palate tightens up, leaving lots of soft but puckery tannins. Good acids. Bone dry and chiseled. No flab. — 2 years ago
Just about the right time to drink this up. Fully resolved tannins, leather, spice, red fruit and plums. Mid weight and very drinkable. — 7 years ago
Slightly on the super dry side. Tart-y. Doesn’t roll up your tongue though. Appreciate the dryness and the full body. Goes well with austrian deer and Christmas time, big depth. A bit of chocolate and spices. — 10 months ago
Gentle red berry and sous-bois aromas vie with light allspice and bay leaf scents. The 2016 is open-knit and harmonious, with bright acidity that lends freshness, vibrancy and a subtle grip on the tobacco-tinged, reassuringly insistent finish. $25.00 (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2021) — 4 years ago
