Château Gilbert & Gaillard

Pierre Gaillard

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2020

Deep purple, almost Inky in color, with a short purple rim.

Strong nose of black and blue fruits with light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates and peppercorn.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, tobacco leaf, oak, bitter herbs, vegetables, spices and black pepper.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a tasty Syrah from Northern Rhone. Dark and rich. Nicely balanced with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, and still young. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.

Gets earthier with a touch of bitterness, as it opens up.

Good right out of the bottle and good by itself or with food.

A blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier. Aged for 18 months in oak barrels.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$60.

Rose Pourpre Côte-Rôtie Syrah

2014, this could have travelled for another decade and still be fantastic, living at the bottom of the Pacific our Australian cousins make there own version, great for a BBQ but this had a far more noble heritage — 7 months ago
