“Saint-Estèphe de Calon-Ségur” was the previous name of the third wine of Calon-Ségur, now known as “Le C de Calon-Ségur” (from 2019). The third wine of the estate is made with some of the younger vines and aged in thrice-used barrels for 16 months.

Popped and poured, enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2018 pours a deep ruby/purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe black fruits: black currant, blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, cocoa and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This is a fairly easy wine to enjoy and has a more modern feel which serves it well for more early drinking. Drink now through 2028. — a year ago

Black currants, a touch of cedar wood, a bit of gravel and a pinch of spice.
And this ‘16 is singing right now with perfectly mellow tannins, still quite a bit of fruit but the depth of flavors is already shifting. Precise, juicy, on the lighter vs fuller side. So drinkable. Delish! — 2 months ago

Dark rubi robe, nose of blackcurrant, cedar-wood, exotic spices. Very very merlot, ripe but not over, its a high octane wine that shows a bit of its 15 degrees on the finish. Not our favorite vintage but the wine is super well done and might benefit from a few more years on bottle. — 4 months ago

2019 vintage. Previously known as Château Capbern Gasqueton, but after the death of the last Gasqueton, the estate was sold (together with Calon-Ségur) to the French insurance company Suravenir. This 2019 Saint-Estèphe features a dark red colour with a purplish rim and an attractive perfume of blackberry, cassis , slightly smoked cedar wood and a hint of pepper. Concentrated layered black fruit,with fresh acidity that perfectly balances the surprisingly high alcohol (15% abv.). Terrific value at around 20 euros. — 4 years ago
