The quintessential St Estephe - savoury black fruit, earthy, slightly leathery/smoky. Firm yet juicy tannins, fresh acidity, v. nice depth & length. Lacks maybe some elegance but makes it up with authenticity. Not so much for sipping, and yet a perfect food wine. — 4 months ago
Deep Ruby with aromas of dried fruits and sweet notes. On the palate flavors of dried apricot and blackberry, well balanced with lively acidity, full-bodied, good structured. Long finish, smooth tannins ending with cacao and rich sweet fruit tones. Very nice! — 5 months ago
2020 vintage. Tasted over the course of 1.5 hours. Medium body. Darker fruits (similar to Troplong-Mondot but less structure) evident from the get go. Plenty of upfront and mid-palate grip with things softening a bit in the later going. Picked up two bottles from Costco...seem to remember it retailing somewhere between $26-$33 a bottle. Definitely worth that pricing and beyond but this specimen wasn't hitting the high score/notes suggested by the Neal Martin review or Delectable others on this particular vintage. Maybe my palate was blown out by the previous wine...a 2019 Barolo. Perhaps. Will likely roll back and pick up two more bottles just to have laying around since it was drinking nicely anyway for the price. Was unfamiliar with this producer and a bit more "practice" won't hurt. 11.26.24. — a month ago
2022 vintage. Dark red, much deeper colour than usual for this estate. Marie-Laure Lurton seems to have gone for a bit more extraction in this exceptional vintage. More powerful than usual, with a fresh black fruit personality, embedded in a tight, ripe tannic structure. Serious length too. Decanting recommended,as it showed better the next day. First taste!? Mature with a bit of bricking but still nice solid color and bouquet of mature red fruits and earth. Velvety and enticing on palate. Excellent with Evan’s Shanghainese pork belly. 51/43/4/2 Merlot/Cab/CabFranc/Petit Verdot on label from Bernard Magrez touting same attention as his Pape Clement, and long history dating back to 1120. Importer label says 37/55/6/2 instead! (Oldest in Medoc, 1400 by house of Foix loyal to King of England. 1486 Camet new owner. 1500s by Michel de Montaigne.) — 2 months ago
