14 years old and still singing like a song. Bright, sweetly balanced liquid lemon curd, with loads of pineapple punctuated with dashes of white asparagus that only that Loire vegetal train can bring. Lots of honey crisp/motts apple juice box all up in that mid palate. — 4 years ago
Some of my most favorite wines in the world. I discovered this bottle and a few others of its ilk recently lurking in the inventory of a local wine shop being sold for a song. I bought them all and opened the first one today. A bright Halloween orange in color this wine smells of orange peel, dark honey and exotic flowers. In the mouth, lightly sweet notes of orange blossom syrup, citrus peel, wet pavement and autumn leaves make for a gorgeous silky concoction. The acidity is filigreed and softening, but still very much a part of the wine. Exotic and alluring. A one-of-a-kind field blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Beurot, Muscat, and Pinot Noir. — 4 years ago
2019 vintage. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot from 25 - 50 years old vines close to the Saint-Estèphe border. In 2019 only 35% of production made it into the grand vin. Seriously good wine that sells for a song. Ripe black fruit and cedary oak notes and a subtle hint of nutmeg. In the mouth it is amazingly complex and concentrated at this price level. The fruit is dense and layered, while perfectly balanced with fresh acidity and ripe tannin. Very good length too. Should age well for at least 10 to 15 years. Superb value! — 3 years ago
Deeeeeeelicious. 2012 fabulous!! Smooth finish, easy drinker doesn’t even need to breathe but the longer it did, the more velvety it became. Devine! — 3 years ago
Dark rubi robe, nose of blackcurrant, top soil notes and hints of anise, pepper and asian spices. Medium bodied, tamed tanins and really good if not very complex. Great bottle now and no rush. We bought it for a song couple of years after it came out and is one of our best ROI in the cellar :) — 3 years ago
Older bottles of Chianti are some of the wine world’s unknown treasures. Everyone is happy to age Brunello but you don’t see many people putting away Chianti in the cellar. And they’re missing out. If you can find old bottles you can sometimes get them for a song, as I did a bunch of these from @garagiste_wine. You want to talk about punching above your weight?!? These suckers are classy AF. Dark fruit with leather, a touch of graphite and earth. Great acidity still, decant and watch them shine. 1996 Terreno “Riserva” Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy. — 3 years ago
