Château Lascombes

Chevalier de Lascombes Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

At the start splash of dark cherries, plums, oranges wrapped into layers of coffee, smoke and leather. The tannins are a bit thick with a bitterness but this works to offset the acidity. — 4 days ago

Jean-Claude Lapalu

Vieilles Vignes Brouilly Gamay 2022

Brouilly, to me, is the fruitiest of the crus, and this is fruit in spades. So tangy and fruity. A bit of barnyard funk on the nose adds complexity. Very zingy and fruity in the mouth. Downright tangy!

UPDATE: After a couple hours of air, this is getting funkier and funkier. Clearly a low- or no-sulfite wine. I Vacuvin-ed a bit to see whether it will even be drinkable on night 2. My guess is it won’t be. (Further update: it was still good but it became clear to me that the funkiness was I was getting on night one was actually brett, which was somehow easier for me to identify the next night.)

I visited Lapalu once when a few of us spent a day tagging along with Eric Texier to his favorite Beaujolais producers!!

Golden and rich. Honey, corn, rounded lemon. Really settled and mature but still fresh with great balanced acidity. Really excellent. — 17 days ago

Domaine de Chevalier

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

Somm David T
9.4

Significantly better than the 2008 Lynch-Bages I had the other night.

Domaine De Chevalier is one of the more underrated or under appreciated Bordeaux producers.

The nose shows; beautiful dry, red flowers, black currants, brambly blackberries, ripe; dark cherries & strawberries, black plum, hints of raspberries, anise, dry herbs, mid baking spices, loamy earthiness, dark spice, dry tobacco/leather, graphite, barrel toast, bright red flowers and liquid violets.

M+ dark meaty tannins. Ripe, juicy, gorgeous fruits; black currants, brambly blackberries, dark cherries & strawberries, black plum, hints of raspberries, red licorice, red to mid berry cola, touch of black licorice, anise, dry herbs, mid baking spices-light clove/nutmeg, cinnamon & light vanillin, dark spices with a little palate heat, loamy earthiness, dark spice w/ some palate heat, dry tobacco/leather, graphite, charcoal, pebbles, some soft mushroom, barrel toast, bright red flowers and liquid violets. Really nice rainfall acidity, well tensioned/structured still w/ age, nicely balanced with an elegant, smartly polished finish that lasts minutes and long sets on spice & earth.

15 yrs of good drinking ahead.
