Opened with chocolaty notes, and finished with loads of red fruit. This wine would age for a decade and should be paired with big, bold flavors. About ten years ago when I was in South Dakota, I asked my server for a white wine recommendation and was given a bottle of Vouvray, a part of the Loire Valley that I have never forgotten since that moment. Now as I felt then, the Chenin blanc grape is one of my favorites. It’s the reason I constantly return to wine from this part of France. This bottle of Les Aumones lived up to my expectations. It is a great, inexpensive choice from Vouvray. It tastes of apple pie and honey, has a refreshing but not overbearing acidity, and is easy - perhaps too easy to drink. It’s a sweet wine but in harmony with its other notes. This 2018 bottle from Domaine Le Capitaine is one I highly recommend (and affordable). — 6 years ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. Black plastic cork; the standard for Dard et Ribo. The 2015 “Les Rouges des Baties” pours a deep, dull ruby/purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of wild black brambles, oil cured olive, roasted meat, purple flowers, black pepper, a mix of organic and inorganic earth and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. An utterly beautiful expression of Crozes-Hermitage and this worked really well with goose from South Dakota. I’m smitten. Drink now through 2035. — 5 months ago
