Diego Conterno’s 2020 Barolo is, once again, a terrific wine in its peer group. Deep, fleshy and super-expressive, the 2020 is ready to go. Crushed rose petal, spice, blood orange, menthol and cedar are front and center. Vibrant, fleshy and terrifically balanced, the 2020 is an absolute delight. I loved it. A very unusual wine.
Nose: Malvasia but elegant. Floral. Tropical. Nice brine.
Palate: lightly tropical. But big mineraliaty. Good acidity.
Great briny finish.
A great pick. — 2 months ago
Magnificent Alpine Red. Blend of Petite Rouge (75%), Mayolet (5%), Vien de Nus (10%) and Premetta (5%). Medium red color with purple highlights. Intense aromas and flavors of dark chocolate, black cherry/elderberry/huckleberry fruit, purple flowers, roasted nuts, black licorice and pepper spice. Firm tannins and a long, lingering and velvety finish. No sign of oak aging. Well balanced with excellent structure. A most pleasant surprise. Revisited in January 2024. Excellent! — 9 months ago
The 2020 Barolo Le Coste di Monforte is redolent of iron, game, incense, scorched earth, blood orange, dark fruit and tobacco. A potent, strapping Barolo, the 2020 is certainly not for the timid. It offers tons of Monforte power, brawn and muscle. A few years in the cellar is an absolute must. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2024)

I thought this was amazing. Great nose, flavors and finish. Loved the entire glass. And when they gave me the remnants even better. So close to WOTN. — a month ago
Lemon-grapefruit aroma and flavor with a smooth finish, nice introduction to a sparkling rosé from a part of CA not as famous for wine — 5 months ago
Delectable Wine

The 2020 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba is a very serious wine. Deeply pitched notes of balsamic, menthol, licorice, spice, chocolate and blackberry soar out of the glass. A wine of depth and textural drive, the 2020 captures tons of Monforte character. Soft tannins (for a young Barolo) make the 2020 surprisingly—I should say shockingly—accessible. What a wine!
