Château La Tour Carnet

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

First taste!? Mature with a bit of bricking but still nice solid color and bouquet of mature red fruits and earth. Velvety and enticing on palate. Excellent with Evan’s Shanghainese pork belly. 51/43/4/2 Merlot/Cab/CabFranc/Petit Verdot on label from Bernard Magrez touting same attention as his Pape Clement, and long history dating back to 1120. Importer label says 37/55/6/2 instead! (Oldest in Medoc, 1400 by house of Foix loyal to King of England. 1486 Camet new owner. 1500s by Michel de Montaigne.) — a month ago

Château Fayat

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. A relatively new estate, composed by buying 3 estates(Vieux Bourgneuf, Prieurs de la Commanderie, and Commanderie de Mazeyres), and renamed after the owner Clement Fayat (who also owns La Dominique and Clement Pichon). Looks a bit older than expected. Very floral nose. Medium-bodied, with red fruit, fresh acidity, slightly rustic tannin, and good length. Gets better with air. Very cheap for Pomerol in a local supermarket ( 29,90 euro),a nice bottle of wine, but nothing really special for Pomerol. — 7 months ago

Bernard Magrez

Chateau Pape Clément Grand Cru Classé de Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

An extensive history with this Pessac-Leognan estate. In 1305 Bertrand de Goth, a major landowner in Bordeaux as well as its Archbishop, became Pope Clement V and the city named this estate in his honour. From 1939 it was owned by the Montagne family, and passed by marriage into the ownership of Bernard Magrez. After a 20 minute decant, aromas of vanilla, raspberry, pepper, menthol - minty, dusty and aristocratic. “Damn good claret” as the old boys in Pall Mall would say! JH said more like the Medoc than Pessac-Leognan on the nose. The medium bodied palate has become more savoury and less fruit driven at 17 years but still works extremely well - seamless. 55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the 1001 wines. — 3 years ago

Star Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Perfectly aged. Smooth and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon. Underrated here. Classic California Cabernet with excellent balance. Not overly bold or overpowering — 3 months ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

Dark dark ruby. Tannins holding strong, a bit tight at the open, but loosens up to a wonderful silky mouthfeel. Black fruit in balance with minerality. Lovely wine but tonight I preferred the Pape Clement. — 7 months ago

Les Ardillers Chablis Chardonnay 2019

Lovely nose. White flowers.

Palate is so mineral. Delicious. Balanced. Lacks density to be elite but damned well made.
