Domaine Coudoulet

Pierre Perrin

Coudoulet de Beaucastel Syrah

The 2017 Coudoulet de Beaucastel, which comes from its own vineyard neighbouring the property, just outside the appellation. The vineyard shares much of the same terroir as its namesake across the road, and this is evident in the character – and quality – of the wine. The nose is a dead ringer for Châteauneuf, with effusive aromas of jammy red fruit, Turkish delight, liquorice, star anise, wild herbs, and cherry liqueur. The palate adds flavours of blood orange and dried cranberry, with good concentration. There is some heat and the finish feels slightly clunky, which is a shame – but I can imagine in a strong vintage this wine must be a real steal. And plenty of life left for this 2017, so I’d certainly look for the ‘16 or ‘19 as an alternative.

A nice wine to enjoy during advent.

Domaine de Saint Siffrein

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2017

More backward and closed than the 2017 Coudoulet, minerals, stones and faint redfruits here, good balance and length, just a bit of heat (15% ABV vs. the 14.0% of the Coudoulet), needs more cellaring. — a year ago

Cru de Coudoulet Cotes-du-Rhone Red Rhone Blend 2015

Delectable: This is made by Famille Perrin, not Pierre Perrin - not offered in your choices. Dense dark Ruby in colour - impenetrable. Fairly closed on the nose - I didn’t decant and probably should have. The palate reflects the ripe warm 2015 vintage. One can taste the fruity Grenache, the tarriness of the Mourvèdre and the spiciness of the Syrah - overall a gamey note - only a small % of Cinsault. Had the last bottle 14 weeks later on 5th February 2022 with similar notes. — 4 years ago

Coudoulet de Beaucastel Cotes-du-Rhone Red Rhone Blend 2016

Aromatics of new leather and dried fruit. Not your average Côtes du Rhône as you would expect from Chateau de Beaucastel. More full bodied than expected to go with our chicken dish. Far richer than Guigal’s version of Côtes du Rhône. — a month ago

Cuvée Unique Vieilles Vignes Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend 2005

This is a SUPERIOR Côtes du Rhône, dark fruits, lovely depth and complexity, this is old vines fruit just barely outside the CdP appellation (similar to Coudoulet de Beaucastel), and has long been a poor man’s CdP!! — 4 months ago

Given how light my most recent bottle of this was, I am dumbfounded that this 20-yr old is still kickin!

@Tom Casagrande, I don’t believe I bought this cuvée after 2005, but I likely have a few orphan bottles going back to 1998, 1999 and/or 2000? The older bottles have almost universally held up well for me. 🤷🤷

Alain Jaume & Fils

Domaine Grand Veneur Les Champauvins Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend 2017

Stylish with plenty of Southern Rhône character, the CDR Les Champauvins from Dom. Grand Veneur is drawn from a plot just north of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and neighbouring Beaucastel’s Coudoulet lieu-dit. It features quite generous aromas of plum, hoisin, violet, garigue and vanilla leading to a very spicy and full bodied palate that hides its high ABV (15%) well. This is a good imitation of its AOC superiors and drinks well at four years of age. — 5 years ago

Château de Beaucastel

Coudoulet de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend 1998

Nice aged Côtes du Rhône, definitely mature, but still some pleasant redfruit aromas and flavors, soft structure, lingering finish, time to drink up!! This was a gray market import, as all labels are in French only, 13.5% ABV. — a month ago

Viognier de Fontgaline 2019

Pleasantly surprised. This wine is floral with touches of stone fruit and honey and persistent acidity. Cheers. — 4 years ago
