Last time I drank this was five years ago according to delectable. Pulled from the cellar for a ribeye. Luscious. Rich and dense but not over the top. Pretty decent acid holding it together. Oak was a hot mess 5 years ago, now it is fully integrated. Fruit is maturing but still has freshness. still plenty of tannin. In a good spot. probably 2026 for my final bottle.. — 3 months ago
Big Friesian cow night and this was pretty good…not convinced it’s worth it compared to the classic roc de cambes that came next, but still well appreciated xxx — 2 years ago
2012 was the first vintage of Clos Marguerite, a high-end Bourg that at the time of release was the highest priced wine of the Appellation, more expensive than Roc de Cambes. A 50/50 Merlot/Malbec blend from 80 years old vines. Still looks young, very dark red with only slight evolution at the rim. While it is definitely a seriously good wine, for my taste, it has more power than finesse. Still fairly young at 11 years old, it showed better the next day. If you like the very extracted style, you will score this higher than me. — a year ago
2015 vintage. As I am moving to Bordeaux (and more precisely Bourg sur Gironde) it makes sense to dig a bit deeper in the Côtes de Bourg appellation. It's not the most renowned part of Bordeaux, even with one pricey superstar (Roc des Cambes). But wow, did this one exceed my expectations! The estate has an ancient history, but up to 1993 the grapes were sold to a local co-operative. The present owner Philippe Betschart moved the estate since 2010 into organic and biodynamical farming. This "Terroir" is a somewhat atypical blend (65% of both Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, with the remainder Merlot) for the region where Merlot is king. More black than red fruit in the nose (cassis, blackberry) with some tobacco and a discrete licorice touch. In the mouth it has amazing elegance. The 14% alcohol go unnoticed, the fruit is bright and lively and the tannins velvety. This has class and depth for the price range (under 20 euros). Highly recommended. — 4 years ago
