Domaine Faiveley (Joseph Faiveley)

Clos des Cortons Faiveley Monopole Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2022

One of the Domaine’s most signature bottlings. Very expressive and a particularly elegant rendition in 2022. Squab pairing. — 7 days ago

Comte Armand

Clos des Epeneaux Monopole Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Quite a deep colour , deep garnet , with a medium wide garnet rim . Needs time to open , quite discreet but quite deep and dark on the nose , with some blackberry tinged , liquorice , dark cherry , earthy sous bois . This opens up after a while to show more floral influences, lighter , redder fruits . On the palate this is quite dense , with a blackberry , dark cherry hint , earthy , mineral with quite grippy tannins . Good volume and density . Balanced acidity and earthy , mineral tinged finish. This needs time and improved quite a lot with air but really needs a few more years in the cellar , maybe come back in 5 years and will last well at least another 10. Promising . — a month ago

Beautiful, round & waxy.

Somewhat sour Meyer lemons w/ a slightly syrupy quality, green apple, honeycomb, citrus blend framed in lime pulp & zest, slightly dry stone fruits w/ apricots in the lead, marmalade bits, tropical melons, pineapple lightly baked in brown sugar, caramel, white spice, notes of dry herbs, dry limestone powder w/ bits, mixed in volcanic minerals, saline, sea fossils, dry stone, hints of flint, yellow lilies & flowers, beautiful, round acidity, well crafted-balanced-tensioned, layered elegant finish that lasts minutes landing on spice w/ a little heat on its long set.

I have enjoyed this producers vineyard over many vintage and this might be the best.

The 22 vintage is stunning and as good as it is, 23 might be better based on a somewhat limited exposure at this point.

The entry is glorious…such balance and wire to wire it doesn’t change much.

Green apple, perfect lemon & lime pulp into subtle candy, grapefruit, white stone fruit, kiwi, tropical melons, pineapple, cream reduction, saline, perfect sea fossils, fine powdery taut chalkiness, crisp volcanics, white spice, grey volcanic minerals, limestone marl, mix of fresh & dry stubble herbs, honeysuckle, light caramel, warm lightly done toast, yellow florals, spring flowers with greens, grand waterfall acidity, beautiful structure-tension, incredible balance with an elegant finish that lasts two-minutes and long sets on volcanic minerals and spice.

Decanted 1 hour.

When I first started buying this bottling, it was $50-$60, now $150. Might be my last bought. My white spend has a more limited range than my red. Don’t think I’m alone.

A property Sofia & I have visited in 2015.

Aux Serpentières Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2020

Fruit forward with a nice earthy, barn-y, fried herb backbone! Very lush and unapologetic, ten years more in the bottle should help it integrate. — 2 months ago

Absolutely on fire with lemon zest and acidity, ripe fruit, a finish that echoes. Used to be the value grand cru white. This still has the Premier Cru strip label. — 16 days ago

Going for a magnum of this wonderful 2018 white Burgundy. Heavy on the alcohol and the typical Burgundy Chardonnay flavors. Hits the mark — 24 days ago

Good for 13 slightly advanced and custardy but didn’t feel like it was a fully pre-moxed wine. — 2 months ago
