Another QVEVRI Georgian wine
This 2013 is tight and needs time to open
They are tough to describe but you know you will fathom it by bottle end — 7 years ago
Can’t fathom why this doesn’t get better ratings. Super intense, but completely drinkable. Perfect for red meats and strong flavored cheese. Love it! Are there other wines from this region, Emporda, that are even better? — 8 years ago
A great surprise. Did not expect to find a wine with a delicious taste of juicy citrus and flowers, but also seemed to show a sense of place. I cannot fathom why there is so little Aligoté left in Burgundy. — 9 years ago
Could not fathom a white blend as good. Exceptional build on all fronts. Honeysuckle, fig and quince. Far more complexity than words can articulate. That's why it's served last during a tasting! Palate filled with brioche, slight frame of cream and white peach. Follows through with a defined finish displaying pinpoint acidity. Wonderful! One of the best I've tasted. — 10 years ago

Turley always brings the A game. I can't fathom how this can be 16.2% ABV; it doesn't taste hot at all. 2012 with Sandra and Trev. — 11 years ago
2018 vintage. Umm...yeah..about this wine...showstopping and seductive. Both big and supple. Deluxe plushy. Tannins relegated to future considerations. Supposedly 90% Grenache and difficult to fathom given both the intensity of dark color and the softness in said dark color. Wouldn't trot this out for someone's first big CDP as representative of the appellation but as a finisher in a lineup of 10+ CDP's? Absolutely. This is one of those wines that leads to an (unhealthy) obsession. Burn after reading and you never saw this. — 3 years ago
Speechless....I have been lucky enough to share this wine with friends twice. Both times I have been blown away. It is fresh, concentrated, but elegant. I cannot fathom that it is 30 years old. It will age for another 20-30 years easily. It is a force of nature yet it has balance and grace. Rocks/minerality with a sweetness of currants, dark fruit, chocolate, smoked meats, and perfect bacon fat. — 7 years ago

This was a transcendent Riesling experience. The best Merkelbach I've ever had, and it's still so young. The best description I can fathom is the ripest kiwi ever with a sprinkle of sea salt and the pure essence of red slate. The characteristic spice is definitely there but hiding in the background for now. The utter depth, concentration, extract, and searing acidity make it unforgettable. — 9 years ago
It was hard not to be both anxious and skeptical going into to this... I don't think there's many (if any) Cabernets from anywhere on the North Coast available under $100 that received a 97 from Robert Parker. Tasted over 7 hours with 6 friends and alongside the 2014 Venge Silencieux. The Venge was the favorite, unanimously. However, this was only a couple lengths back. A thick perfume of kirsch and cassis, with dusty character that follows through as licorice and smoke on the palate. A very good Cabernet, a great example of Alexander Valley, and an extraordinary value. I just can't fathom this is better than 4 out of the 8 Cabernets produced by Schrader in 2014 that Parker scored 94-96. — 9 years ago

Was impressed and surprised by this white blend. The perfect table wine for a summer lunch. — 11 years ago
Pretty damn solid -- can't fathom $750 for their new releases, but this older, less stellar Napa year might be worth it. Incredible density and length. — 13 years ago
2018 vintage is 100% Petit Verdot as far as I can tell.
Violet color. Dark ripe fruit, anise, small amount of oak. Tastes of black cherry, dark fruit, oak, and a hint of anise. Delicious. — 6 years ago
2008 Sine Qua Non "Jinete Bajo Vin de Paille" California Roussanne (375ml). A sweet wine named after E’s favorite horse. Beautiful, fathom-deep gold color. Apricots and orange marmalade on the nose. Unctuous, syrupy, creamy texture with notes of candied citrus and creme brûlée. Monstrous 240 grams per liter of residual sugar with perfectly balanced acidity. Manfred really is the master of these high wire balancing acts. Is there anything that this guy doesn’t excel at? Simply spectacular. A beautiful dessert wine that is itself a dessert. — 9 years ago

14 years did this wine good. Smooth, rich dark berry, breathing in vanilla and caramel. — 9 years ago
Supposedly this vintage can last 50 years. I'd be 85. I can't imagine what that would be like, nor is my palate advanced enough to fathom what this wine will be like in 2062. Cheers to hopefully finding out. — 11 years ago

Acquiring and trying a bottle of Keller GG Riesling has been on my list for a while, and a great opportunity allowed me to snag this 2018 and finally see what makes this producer so highly regarded.
Enjoyed at pop, and followed over two hours.
I’m sure this could have benefitted from a decant, but part of my desire was to see how it changed from the start. Incredibly aromatic out of the glass…bright citrus and nearly tropical fruits, floral and also a unique smokiness. Texturally, this was powerful with intensity and vibrant-slaty minerality. Fresh limes and limestone wrapped in a full-bodied (for a Riesling) profile with acidity and a finish that lingered extensively. Fresh. Electric. Pure.
I didn’t notice a substantial difference at last glass vs the first, but this is still in its infancy. I can’t even fathom how good these must be with 15-20yrs on them! — a year ago
