Flying Trout

Arnot-Roberts

Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Lemon curd and a zesty acidity that lands with some sweetness and then bite.

Pairing with an avocado really mellowed this wine out and made it delicious.

Lots of tension and bright lemon citrus flavor. Touch of lime.

Flying Goat Cellars

Clos Pepe Vineyard Goat Bubbles Blanc de Noirs Pinot Noir 2016

At Flying Goat, the goal is to produce unpretentious, playful wines while retaining a serious quality focus and commitment to a purity of expression from single-vineyard sites such as the Solomon Hills Vineyard, Bien Nacido Vineyard, Rancho Santa Rosa, to name a few.

This intention is reinforced by everything from the whimsical labels (Flying Goat, Goat Bubbles, YNOT), to the critical acclaim Flying Goat Cellars has garnered for its impressive wines, to the impeccably balanced and delicious Pinot Noir and vintage, traditional method sparkling wines.

This 2016 blanc de noirs sparkler — made with Pinot Noir hailing from the Bien Nacido Vineyard — is medium gold in appearance, with a fine and creamy mousse, and fresh notes of just-ripe yellow apple, pear, white peach, lemon zest, citrus blossom, biscuit, toast, brioche, toasted almond, and marzipan. It has a lingering, elegant finish.

I thoroughly enjoyed that one

Trout Lily Ranch

Adam's Vineyard Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir 2018

My last bottle of this. It’s really good in a fuller style Oregon Pinot. Complex nose has gravelly loam, sandalwood notes, sappy cherry ooze, crushed rock, a little autumn baking spice. Full and broad in the mouth, but the flavors exhibit a nice balance of fruit, mineral, and underbrush notes. Medium acids, and a little very fine-grained tannin makes an appearance in the back half of the finish. Very nice — 4 months ago

Ceritas

Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

I keep opening these too young. This has to be my favorite ceritas chard bottling. All the GC Chablis comparisons are spot on. Nose has candied lemon and tangerine, seashell, flint, and a kind of musty maritime quality. Bracingly acidic and saline. Begs for raw bar. Should continue to deepen with time. I think I have one more and will try not to touch for another 3-5 years — 2 years ago
