Recis Spätburgunder 2011

Excellent see previous notes. Franken! No one knows they make Pinot. Franconia. Excellent really. Mellowed out all the way. Orange juice. Cherry undertones. Stunning. Fantastic winery but boy is this off the beaten path. Visited once. They mostly make Silvaner. So this is the oddball. — 7 months ago

Hoheleite GG Riesling 2012

Chilled a little over cellar temperature, notes forthcoming...

Nose has insane qualities, not sure I've ever experienced a Riesling like this, beeswax, grapefruit pith, fresh cut white grapefruit, freshly cut spring hay and faint wet limestone.

Palate is restrained, yet screaming acidity, pulverized SweeTARTS, honey poured over citrus pith, limestone dust and faint white flowers.

Holy crap this is good!

Visited the winery in 2018, so a little stock of future pleasure in the cellar... 😉

Franconia 2020

Another unique single-varietal from Friuli: Franconia, which is the same grape as Blaufrankisch. Medium-bodied, and with notes of candied cherry and stewed raspberry. Great pairing with roasted meat. 100% Franconia. 4/30/23. — 2 years ago

There’s nothing in this world quite like a fine Franconian Silvaner. They are so distinctively different from all other white wines, with their own universe of aromas and flavors. When grown particularly in its central area and often in the eastern district, salty sea air, oyster shell, and yellow plum predominate as with this perfect, 7 year old Premier Cru example. Make no mistake, Franconia offers world-class, dry white wine through Silvaner, and other varieties too. Pinot Noir here can be equally impressive. These wines are hard to find outside of Germany but well worth the search. — 4 years ago

Jermann

Blau & Blau Blaufränkisch 2012

Jermann ‘Blau & Blau’ Rosso 2012: Medium-bodied. Impeccable balance. Nicely integrated tannins with the right level of acidity. The color was bright ruby red and the aromas were red fruit dominate. Tasting notes of strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, herbs, earth, oak & smoke. Dry elegant finish. What an outstanding, unique Northern Italian blend of Blaufränkisch (Franconia in Italy or Lemberger in Germany) & Blauburgunder (Pinot Nero in Italy or Pinot Noir in France). Bought this several years ago at an enoteca in Bellaria, Italia due to the attractive pink label and tonight was the night it would be set free & consumed. Long story short, loved every drop; it was funky. It was fun. It was memorable. Highly recommend. Cheers🍷 — 2 years ago
