Modus Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2018

I've already reviewed the 2020, so I'll keep it brief. I've been a big fan of this wine for 12 years. It is one of my go-to Italian reds when I am having friends over for a feast. And this bottle is tasting great without a feast.
Listening to Phil Keaggy. (Check out his album Beyond Nature. Phil is the greatest guitarist I've ever met, and he's one of the best in the world)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

ESF
9.1

scored a split on closeout and it was tasty! probably just starting its gentle decline w/some musty oxidative aromas, but it also had engaging smoke & spice, worn leather, sour cherry, red currant, hint of vanilla & cocoa, sweet soil and other earth driven elements. med bodied, well worn tannins and some acidity presented a fairly balanced palate. usually priced out of Brunello so this was a treat! — 14 days ago

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Bolgheri Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

+1 hour decant(decent chunky/fine sediment). A splendid medium dark garnet color. On the nose: perfumed notes of red fruit, herbaceous, eucalyptus, mushroom, smoked meat, ripe olives, sweet tobacco. Taste: rich, velvety full wine with brambly dark cherry/plum, coffee, dark chocolate, orange peel, and a peppery- dried herbs- gamey long finish. YUM! A nicely aged and elegant wine with soft tannins and good acidity!! — 3 days ago

Uccelliera

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

Rich red fruits (cherry) reflective of the excellent vintage. Rich savouriness on the medium + bodied palate. Liquorice notes. Based on how good the 2019 Rosso was from Uccelliera was, this was always going to be a winner. — 5 days ago

Hi Bob, do you think it still needs additional cellartime or is it already approachable?

@Anthony De Blasi Probably both Anthony - it is certainly enjoyable now but no problem cellaring for a few more years. Such a good vintage for Brunello.

Casanova di Neri

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

In a perfect spot! Great Brunello, tastes still young so I think quite some time left to drink these — 12 days ago

Fattoria Poggio di Sotto

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Medium ruby with quite a terracotta , garnet rim . Quite sweetly spiced nose , red cherries , cedar , dried spice and some strawberry coulis , earthy undertones . Pretty young and fruit forward at the moment . This is quite elegant and perfumed on the palate with lots of fresh red fruits , cedar and dried sage . Balanced acidity and ripe but slightly grippy tannins . This has good length and a saline finish . Quite young still but enjoyable at the moment , will continue to show well over the next 10 years , maybe more. At Doppo restaurant, Soho . — 10 days ago

Marchesi Antinori

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2021

Vanilla, oak and spices on the nose that beautifully integrates with tart cherry, blackberry and soft tannins on the palette. Very young wine that is of exceptional quality that would certainly benefit from aging to have tertiary flavors and aromas develop. — 20 days ago

Tenuta San Guido

Guidalberto Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

This was the jewel of all of the wine options at this particular restaurant. Full-bodied, a bit fruit-forward; went well with both veal Marsala and lasagna. Bonus: the leftover wine, when corked and stored in the refrigerator, held up well for a week. — 9 days ago

Gaja

Ca'Marcanda Promis Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2023

Light and fragile wine from Toscana. Wonderful image of sea-inspired wine, which has also sun-ripe fruitiness inside. — 12 days ago
