Woof. One smell of the 2020 Levet Côte Rôtie and you know it’s happening! The wine pours a deep ruby with a purple tinge and a near opaque core. Medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. No signs of sediment or gas. The nose: absolutely feral. Holy whole-cluster Batman! All of the rotundone your heart could desire. Funky dark bramble fruit, deli case, black pepper, blueberry crisp, lavender, dried green herbs, inorganic earth, and subtle baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is long with a generous streak of minerals. An awesome Levet that’s already showing off, in its relative youth. Drinking surprisingly well right now and I expect it will continue to do so, well through 2035. — 2 years ago
Deep ruby color. Black fruits on the nose and the palate, with chocolate, licorice, and oak. Bold and full bodied with mild tannins. Lingering finish. Great blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, and Petite Syrah. It was worth the 8 year wait. — 4 months ago
12/22 A LOT of vanilla and banana. Sweet. Smooth with no burn. Have to like all the tropical notes but I did. From Philippines. High marks 89 — 3 years ago
In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make Italian wines from the heart of Tuscany. Medium Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spice. On the palate black cherry, blackberry and plum flavors with tobacco, pepper and earthy cedar notes. Full-bodied, well balanced soft drying tannins on a smooth medium+ finish. Grab some Italian food and enjoy the great value wine. — 4 years ago
Nice mix of bright vibrant acidity and dark fruit and earth flavor. — 6 years ago
In the heart of the Chianti lies Estate of Sette Ponti, 15 miles northwest of the city of Arezzo, past village of San Giustino Valdarno. Has 10% Merlot, aged in French Allier barriques, deep Ruby with red fruit aromas and floral notes. On the palate blackberry, plum and cherry flavors with blossom notes, spice and fine integrated tannins. Good balance, long finish ending with some oak and mineral tones. Nice! Will age a bit! Tasting well now! — 9 months ago
Fall is here and it’s the season I love to drink port. Dow, producing Ports for over 2 centuries. One of the first to establish its own vineyards, acquiring Senhora da Ribeira, in the remote Upper Douro, in 1890 & Bomfim, in the heart of Alto Douro, in 1896. Aromas of ripe fruits, fragrant spices and sweet notes. On the palate flavors of candied apple and jammy blackberries with cacao and honey. Firm dusty tannins, good balance, long finish. Perfect now.
