Jaspis Grauer Burgunder 2019

Lovely peach/pink colour. Massive nose of petrol, flint and smoke which are also apparent on the palate. Some fruit but this is more a mineral monster. Very impressive showing!!! — a month ago

444 Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Ming L
9.1

444 represents the Cab planting of the estate vineyard: 4 different clones, 4 different root stock, on 4 different blocks.
This is more exuberant than the other 2 cabs. More apparent leathery and herbaceous notes as well. Not as deep and polished. Very solid overall.

Trawsfynydd Red Blend 2008

Popped and poured; no formal notes. A mix of dark and red fruits with tobacco, earth and spices. The wine is finally matured and drinking very well now. It has lost all of the green tones that were more apparent in its youth. Everything is now fully fleshed out and should continue to drink well for another 5+ years. Really, these are some lovely (and age-able) wines from the Four Corners area of CO.

Vinyes de Coster FA 206 Priorat Garnatxa Negra Cariñena 2013

Medium intensity rubi with nice soft tannins, red fruit flav and apparent high alcohol ( 15 abv). High acidity. I tasted this same vintages 2 years ago. Now it’s much better! Drink it now. Nice wine! — 4 years ago

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium plus intensity.

Pretty nose with red and blue fruits, light oak, herbs, licorice, chocolates and spices.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, plums, red currants, earth, light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.

Long tangy finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very interesting Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Not the typical Napa Cabernet. Very unique, spicy and tangy.

Soft and elegant on the palate, with nice complexity.

A good quality wine. Still young, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years.

Good right out of the bottle and much better after an hour to open up properly.

The high alcohol is not very noticeable at this point.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. I paired it with cheeses and crackers.

A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Merlot.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$120.

Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium intensity.

On the nose red cherries, red currants, sweet raspberries, light oak, spices, chocolates, bell pepper, vegetables, green olives, earth, herbs and black pepper.

Medium plus in body and elegant, with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, earth, dark chocolates, peppercorn, herbs, light vegetables and tobacco leaf.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This young Merlot based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley is starting to drink nicely, but needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly.

Soft and smooth with nice complexity and mouthfeel. Spicy and entertaining.

Needs a couple of hours in the decanter to open up.

Feels very much like a right Bank Bordeaux rather than a Napa one.

There's plenty of fruits here, but they're all intertwined with lots of earth notes. Interesting stuff out of Napa.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with cheeses and crackers. Will pair nicely with BBQ Meats.

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. A small production of only 390 cases.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$120.

Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2008

Dark ruby red color. The nose is powerful: raspberries, chocolate and also leather. The mouthfeel is complex and balanced! The berries are immediately apparent, followed by savoryness, and hints of vanilla. The finish is long, intense, and full of round tannings but smooth as silk. Rioja, paella and Alejandro Sanz; can’t get more Spanish than that. And it may be the inspiration talking but this bottle is tasting as close to Rioja perfection as I’ve ever had. — 4 years ago

Fore sure. Need to get my hands on a few more bottles.

Tenuta di Trinoro

Le Cupole Rosso Toscana Red Blend 2018

Poured into a Swan decanter about 30min prior to service. The 2018 “Le Cupole” pours a dark ruby with a near opaque, slightly hazy core. Medium+ viscosity with fairly significant staining of the tears. On the nose, powerful aromas of tart dusty cherries, currants, black plums, purple flowers, bell pepper, gravely earth and warm spices. On the palate, medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose however the fruits are showing more desiccated which is made apparent on the finish. So Italian despite being more Cab Franc and Merlot. Drink now with a short decant or enjoy through 2030 — 6 months ago

Alion Ribera del Duero Tinto Fino 2018

The pedigree is apparent with elegant medium to full body and very refined tannins. The fruits are fresh but a bit lean and compact, not sure if it’s because of the vintage. Oak is restrained but needs time to integrate. — 10 months ago

Damilano

Cannubi Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

New to Barolo, definitely a 2nd day wine in its youth. Much better than last nights glass,

James Suckling 98
"The fruit feels so comfortable here, in the ripe-red zone; it ranges from cherry kernel to chocolate-coated red plums to glazed cherries. Integrated hints of bark and sandalwood. Full-bodied with strapping tannins and muscular, imposing structure and power. Notwithstanding, everything is in striking balance and delivered with remarkable precision and grit."

Wine Advocate 97
"The Damilano 2016 Barolo Cannubi shows depth and a profound nature. This is the DNA of the Cannubi cru, maybe the most celebrated in the appellation with mildly compact, well-draining sandy soils (actually, a mix of 45 sand, 35 silt and 20 clay, to be precise). These conditions contribute to the dark concentration and the firm textural support found here. These assets are particularly apparent in this classic vintage. Dark fruit and dried cherry cede to earthy truffle and licorice. Of these various single-vineyard expressions, the tight tannins on this Cannubi definitely suggest a long drinking window. This wine is my favorite in this flight from Damilano, and this vintage of 40,000 bottles is distinguished by its sheer excellence."
