Castello di Bossi

Riserva Berardo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2018

This up-front, fleshy Chianti is drinking really nicely right now. Pretty extroverted nose shows dark, macerated cherry, iodiney minerality, and a little loamy soil. In the mouth it’s pretty full, with a big whack of fruit initially, some tertiary notes developing and becoming apparent in the back half of the palate. Decent acids and still some soft tannin providing some scaffolding. I’d like a bit more linearity and persistence in the finish but for a ‘18 it’s darn nice. — 21 days ago

The Standish Wine Company

The Relic Shiraz Blend 2014

2014 vintage. 3 hour decant.
3/6.5/9.5 = 19 out of 100 say 96.
High quality Barossa Shiraz with an awesome bouquet apparent as soon as it’s released from the bottle (though I always think blending Viognier is cheating in that regard). Still a strong tannin/acid structure so still not at its peak - say 5 years more at least. High alcohol content but integrated perfectly - didn’t even notice. Really pleasant long linger. Standish is an artist so you must collect and try. My next move is to try back to back with a Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 2

V12 Vineyards

444 Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Ming L
9.1

444 represents the Cab planting of the estate vineyard: 4 different clones, 4 different root stock, on 4 different blocks.
This is more exuberant than the other 2 cabs. More apparent leathery and herbaceous notes as well. Not as deep and polished. Very solid overall.

Damilano

Cannubi Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

New to Barolo, definitely a 2nd day wine in its youth. Much better than last nights glass,

James Suckling 98
"The fruit feels so comfortable here, in the ripe-red zone; it ranges from cherry kernel to chocolate-coated red plums to glazed cherries. Integrated hints of bark and sandalwood. Full-bodied with strapping tannins and muscular, imposing structure and power. Notwithstanding, everything is in striking balance and delivered with remarkable precision and grit."

Wine Advocate 97
"The Damilano 2016 Barolo Cannubi shows depth and a profound nature. This is the DNA of the Cannubi cru, maybe the most celebrated in the appellation with mildly compact, well-draining sandy soils (actually, a mix of 45 sand, 35 silt and 20 clay, to be precise). These conditions contribute to the dark concentration and the firm textural support found here. These assets are particularly apparent in this classic vintage. Dark fruit and dried cherry cede to earthy truffle and licorice. Of these various single-vineyard expressions, the tight tannins on this Cannubi definitely suggest a long drinking window. This wine is my favorite in this flight from Damilano, and this vintage of 40,000 bottles is distinguished by its sheer excellence."

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Not sure I’ve had any other 2006 Bordeaux but decided to pull this to give it a go at nearly 20 years of age. Nice wine but perhaps not one that justifies the price point. At first quite tight, but after a 5 hour decant this really comes into its own. Lots of leather and dark blue and black fruit. Oak is really only apparent in structure now. Great acid. 13% which is nicely balanced. — 2 months ago

Penfolds

Bin 389 South Australia Cabernet Shiraz 2008

Cassis and oak - the latter quite noticeable. From a ripe year where the fruit should be apparent but at the moment the oak dominates - mocha notes, but then again still has a huge future. Amazing what a solid core of self contained full body this has for 16 years of age, but still of profound intensity - dark chocolate and black currant. Will go on for literally decades - only have 2 left. Penfolds “Rewards of Patience “ say through to 2050! That is not as crazy as it sounds. This wine is close to immortal Next one in 10 years. — a year ago

The nose needs some air, the cork was wet with some aromas of wet cardboard at first but things got for the better after with no apparent defect and a classic left bank nose. Gorgeous balanced Cos, not the most powerful at this point but gracious, showing no fatigue also with a long delicious finish.

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Nose of cherries, blueberries, plums, currents, lights tobacco, light cedar, licorice, metals, black pepper and spices.

Full-bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, black plums, currants, oak, light vanilla, bitter herbs, spices, light earth, cola, dark chocolates, peppercorn and green vegetables.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This 6-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is drinking very nicely now. Elegant and smooth.

Fruit forward with earth notes that compliment the fruits. Feels very much like a Left Bank Bordeaux, with a touch of New World.

Powerful, yet elegant. Nicely balanced with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years.

A nice sipping wine, and good with food too.

A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Merlot.

14.7% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$80.

Lovely peach/pink colour. Massive nose of petrol, flint and smoke which are also apparent on the palate. Some fruit but this is more a mineral monster. Very impressive showing!!! — a year ago

Sutcliffe Vineyards

Trawsfynydd Red Blend 2008

Popped and poured; no formal notes. A mix of dark and red fruits with tobacco, earth and spices. The wine is finally matured and drinking very well now. It has lost all of the green tones that were more apparent in its youth. Everything is now fully fleshed out and should continue to drink well for another 5+ years. Really, these are some lovely (and age-able) wines from the Four Corners area of CO.
