Excellent clarity, moderate pigment extraction, ruby red with purple tinge. Raspberry and white pepper aromas, raspberry, white pepper and black tea flavors, as promised on back label. Lots of loose seedy tannins on finish with a kids’ grape fruit juice aftertaste. Needs time to open. After an hour, tart, moderate astringency. After three hours, the raspberry and white pepper flavors were fully resolved, but the skin tannins were still largely expressive with all their astringency. Decant even longer! — 11 days ago

New vintage, yummy blackberries and, er, tobacco. Becoming a favorite. After 30 minutes, a healthy dose of fine-grained skin astringency emerges. Tangy or slightly tart on finish, with plenty of mouth-coating skin tannins. Worth decanting a couple of hours — 6 months ago

Between 91-92. Big, dense, peppery, and fun for a not a usually Zin guy. Has boysenberry, blueberry, soy, and funk. Pretty good balance if you don’t consider the fruit. 😉 — 4 months ago

Decanted about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2006 Rattlesnake Ridge pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core and some rim variation. Medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart, ripe, and some desiccated, mostly black fruits. Black cherry, wild black brambles, black plums and some pruning, figs, black pepper, smoked meat, leather and hoisin. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose although the profile is fresher. The finish is long and reminded me of purple Sweet Tarts with crazy minerals. Balanced. This is showing so well right now and has a long life yet ahead. Drink now with a long decant and enjoy through 2036 easy. — 8 months ago

Unbelievable petite still delivers huge burst of fruit albeit a bit more restrained than bottles consumed last year. Beautiful bouquet of berries and earth promise great depth of flavor. Dark purple color. Nose is not as perfumed as the Cyrus Ryan or Rattlesnake but nicely fragrant with notes of currants and menthol. While 12 years on, it is quite balanced for a Spring Mountain wine. — 3 years ago
