Jimmy Watson

Bin No 1 Great Western Shiraz 2011

2012 Jimmy Watson winner. No Bin 1 or Thompson family made in 20111 due to wet year so all the best fruit in this wine, drinking very nicely but noticeably greenish and lighter due to poor year. — 8 days ago

Watson Ranch Cabernet Franc 2024

There is no doubt what varietal this one is and it is in the loire style. Tons of green and black pepper, plums, bit of cherry, light bodied overall. Some flowers towards the end. Will be fun to see how it evolves. Reminds me of entry level chinon from Kermit lynch. — 5 months ago

Consistent notes. Firm still. Besides the cabs, might be their longest living bottling. — 3 years ago

A sourness on the nose remans and is greater than the expected pyrazines. Pleasant if you like the house style. — 22 days ago

If you like Ca Chardonnay with firm wood-warmer climate backbone structure, this probably isn’t for you. It is closer to white burgundy, which is why I buy it occasionally. It reminds me of the a leaner, less viscous, 2014/16 Domaine de la Bongran Viré-Clessé Cuvée E.J. Thevenet.

The palate is perfectly ripe; green apple, lemon/lime juicy pulp w/ zest, grapefruit with pith, tropical melon, white stone fruit, marmalade as it warms & opens up, Bosc pear w/ skin & lychees. Honey notes, but less than Viré-Clessé Cuvée E.J. Thevenet, caramel, milk froth, vanillin, dry limestone powered, toast crust, some white spice, grey volcanics, saline notes, yellow lilies, white flowers, jasmine blossoms, mixed in greens, very pleasant acidity, well; knitted, balanced, good tension, medium structure and a smarty polished 90 second finish that settles on spice and minerals.

Belated notes on New Year’s Eve! Allison Oli wedding celebration dinner 10-7-24 Water Witch Club, “Uncle Jimmy” wine tasting table within vertical of Riesling and world tour of Pinot Noir. Second stop, modern yet balanced style with nice matured red fruits and silky palate with nice finish. Many liked it, as per Oregon Pinot popularity. — 3 years ago

So frustrating. Whoever owns this app (is it still Vinous?) clearly no longer gives a sh*t about it or its users.

@Tom Casagrande Yes Tom. One had to love wine, as we do, to attempt to keep posting on Delectable.

Watson Ranch Napa Valley Chardonnay 2023

Needs air for 3 hours. Then just great. 13.1 % lots of stuffing here. A powerful Chard with weight and body. Well balanced acidity. Already a hint of Hazelnut but otherwise at this point of its evolution citrus driven. Meyer lemon, sour mandarine, hint of green, touch smoke. Keep for 10 years. Diam Cork 5. — 6 months ago

Belated notes on New Year’s Eve! Allison Oli wedding celebration dinner 10-7-24 Water Witch Club, “Uncle Jimmy” wine tasting table with vertical of Riesling and world tour of Pinot Noir. Third stop on world tour, more into the lusher California style with richer red fruits and floral notes even at this age but a bit more sense of heat. Quite a few liked this. Also no surprise. — 2 years ago
