Butter butter butter! Warm dark fruits with a balanced start and even smoother finish. Raspberry, blackberry, light jam, leather, with a hint of allspice. June 1, 2021 berns with Tara. — 4 years ago
Honey nut cheerios, juicy apple, sweet herbs, dough, chalk. There’s a honeyed note to it all and a nice chewy texture. It finishes short, but the snapshot of an aged champagne is there. I liked the strong autolytic components. Thought the dosage seemed about right, curious if less would bring more length or vice versa. Whoa Nelly that’s a nose! Potent as being nosed out of sleep by my cat in the morning (ps I lied and told him that Xinomavro the grape was named after him, not vice versa). Full of dark red cherry, pepper, herbs (the wine not my cat, he’s just full of Fancy Feast) the palate echos the nose bringing in an amaro-esque element. I want more! — a year ago
N: peppery raspberry sauce with lots of garrigue and a few wild flowers.
P: starts out with ripe, rich fruit notes balanced by savory herbs, with pencil lead and stones on the finish.
Had with kibbeh and mezze spread. The allspice in the kibbeh brought out attractive spice notes in the wine, and vice versa. Similarly spoke the paprika on the hummus.
I really like this cdr, Greg liked it less.

Opened and poured into a decanter about four hours prior to service. The 2017 Beckstoffer To Kalon pours a deep purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful black and blue fruits, brambles, plums, currants, vanilla, cocoa and baking spices. Lavishly oaked. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the note from the nose. The finish is long and concentrated. Super primary at this stage. The fruit quality is very high and there’s a lot of it. A dense wine and I expect a long life. For my palate, better after 2027 and enjoy through 2050. — 6 months ago
