Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Quite excellent and very excited for what this will be in a few more years. Decanted 4 hours which I’d suggest at this stage. Beautiful in the glass, characteristic Nebbiolo hint of translucency even in a more powerful red. Nose goes on and on and the palate matches with lots of dark and dried berry fruit, some leathery notes, and that lifting quasi menthol character. Tannins are certainly present - needs food. Great acid and finish. What a value. — 9 months ago

Proprieta Sperino

Uvaggio Coste della Sesia Rosso Nebbiolo Blend 2019

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course two hours. The 2019 “Uvaggio”pours, a bright garnet color with a transparent core, moving to a rose colored rim. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Morello cherry, strawberry, raspberry, pink roses, talcum powder, a smell that reminds me of the produce section in a grocery store of a developing country (yeah, it’s specific but, fight me), dried green herbs, and stony earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long, juicy and a touch spicy with a bit of black pepper that I find quite intriguing. A delicious pairing with lamb/beef kofta. All in all, another brilliant vintage of “Uvaggio” and further proof that the work of Luca DeMarchi at Proprieta Sperino is worthy of serious attention. Drink now through 2034. — 10 months ago

Deep and rich, but with good acidity and a hint of minerals. Would be interesting to see how this develops. — 3 years ago

Superiore Barbera d'Alba 2020

Nice barbera, a grape I don’t always love. Quite savory, with some berry to balance. Some dusty tannins and maybe a slight hint of heat. Nice acid on the finish. — 7 months ago

Duemani

Toscana IGT Cabernet Franc 2005

This is as great Tuscany can get - 100% Cabernet Franc, with beautiful fruit, very dark appearance, dark cherry, herb and chocolate flavours. Duemani refers to the two hands of Luca d’Attoma, oenologist also known from Tua Rita and Le Macchiole, two other great Tuscany estates. Prices have almost doubled since 2005, but this wine is worth it! — 3 years ago

Reserve Vermentino 2019

This was my second bottle (spaced 1 yr apart) and while it drinks like a SauvBlanc, this bottle seemed to have lost about 25% of its acid. Nevertheless, this paired wonderfully with our winter caprice baguettes ( think bruschetta ). That touch of lime is very pleasant and the minerality refreshing!
