Mission Point

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (47%), Merlot (47%) and Cabernet Franc (6%). Dark ruby color with a few purple highlights. Savory aromas of burnt wood, asphalt, black fruit, smoky oak and purple flowers. Flavors of cooked blue and black berries, espresso, mushrooms, cassis and oolong tea. Long and smoky finish. Nicely balanced and extremely concentrated. Smooth tannins but still quite the powerhouse. Heading past its prime but still extremely drinkable. Thank you for sharing this incredible wine, Kasey and Pete. — 14 days ago

La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2021

Great second wine here. Yes probably too young but with 2 hours in the decanter this was singing. In another couple of years 94. Super wine — 5 days ago

Finger Lakes Riesling 2002

This is the *Dry* Riesling 2002 and at 23 years it’s still very good. Mature for sure but with its faculties intact. There’s a pretty big buzz about Finger Lakes Riesling these days but excellent wines were made there way back then and earlier as well. — 2 months ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Cru Classe des Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

1990 vintage. Top shoulder fill. Nearly completely saturated cork. Durand used to open. Not decanted. Tasted 2 hours after opening. Light-medium body. WOTD just barely over the 1990 Château Margaux. More of a LMHB than Margaux fan so we'll call it a draw. Beautiful star anise nose and flavor component evident. Based on this sample, this could easily roll another 5-6 years before downshifting. 11.21.25. — a month ago

@Paul T HB that 1990 Montrose ain't no love song/ballad. It's still Norwegian death metal. Steer clear of that bad boy if you want a smooth anni celebration. One of the few aged wines I've ever had that prompts a "I should probably floss" thought process.

I appreciate it. It’s not really a celebration but a personal day to remember my wife who I lost last year unexpectedly. But I will not stop my 1990 bottle search’s

Oculus Estate Bottled Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Luscious tannins, smooth body. Now was the time to drink the 2015 vintage….it couldn’t wait any longer. Intense black fruit, plum and spice on the palette. A delicious BC Bordeaux blend. Reminiscent of a Napa Cab. — 3 months ago
