Lagier Meredith

Mount Veeder Syrah 2008

Intense red fruited aromas and flavors, a little less tannic and structured than the 2007, but this shows bracing acidity at the present time, long, lingering finish, which the incredible acid backbone lifts and lengthens, another wine to ideally drink from 25-30 years after the vintage! — 22 days ago

@Doug Powers If you get a chance try their top Cuvée - the Langi. One of our best Shiraz I think.

@Bob McDonald, when we visited there in November of 2023, I purchased a couple bottles of the Langhi, Mast and another Shiraz cuvée. Letting them rest a bit in the cellar.

They make a brilliant cab, too, as I’m sure you are aware…

M3 Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2019

Pale yellow in colour. A good combination of citrus and stonefruit on nose and palate. Slightly saline at the finish. This Chardonnay is a leading Australian Chardy made at their HQ in the Adelaide Hills. Barb and I first tried the 2019 at a structured tasting at the winery on 31/3/21. We were hugely impressed. This is my last bottle from the home cellar. I restock my cellar most vintages with the M3 Chardonnay. Their Chardonnay from the Lenswood Vineyard is also very good. — a month ago

Reed Vineyard Pinot Noir 1981

The wine opened up quite a bit after decanting for an hour or so. Great tawny color, notes of sour cherry and raisins, long aftertaste. Will integrated tannins. An awesome bottle! — a month ago

Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Winemaker dinner at Nari. This was clearly young and tasted next to the 2011 missing the depth of maturity — 3 months ago

It’s just too young. The older 2011 version was excellent.

Boars' View The Coast Pinot Noir 2019

Boars’ View “The Coast” Pinot Noir 2018
Fort Ross–Seaview AVA, Sonoma Coast, California, USA 🇺🇸

Overview
Handcrafted by Thomas Rivers Brown at the dramatic West Sonoma Coast site, this Pinot Noir highlights maritime fog, Goldridge loam soils, and heritage clones. The 2018 “Coast” includes 100% heritage clones—Calera, Mt. Eden, and Swan—meticulously fermented and aged to express both elegance and power.

Aromas & Flavors
Plush and aromatic: expect cranberry compote, lavender, sandalwood, and hints of violet. On the palate, it delivers black cherry, plum paste, nutmeg, quince, forest floor, and licorice—all layered over a finely tuned mineral edge.

Mouthfeel
Full-bodied yet refined. Silky tannins and well-integrated acidity support rich fruit without heaviness. A harmonious finish unfolds with persistence and grace.

Winemaking Notes
Destemmed fruit underwent fermentation and then aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 50% new, from François Frères, Remond, and Gauthier cooperages. The result is focused power with nuanced oak influence.

Food Pairing
Perfect with grilled duck, game birds, roasted pork, or truffle-scented risotto. Its depth and savory complexity also pair beautifully with hearty stews or mushroom-forward dishes.

Verdict
Boars’ View “The Coast” PINOT NOIR 2018 is a masterclass in West Coast Pinot—intensely flavorful, texturally rich, and meticulously crafted. A cellar-worthy wine with both grace and longevity. A rare Napa-level Pinot Noir priced in the $145–160 range. Cheers!
