Domaine Michel Lafarge

Vendanges Sélectionnées Meursault Chardonnay 2018

2024/8/13-14. This is in a rich style but without much oak influence; ripe lemon, citrus blossom, a bit of butter and stone. It reminds me of Merlin’s wines (though that impression might be heightened because I’m drinking through a tranche of the latter in parallel) — 3 months ago

Domaine de la Mordorée

La Dame Rousse Tavel Rosé Blend 2018

Sh-t. I mean. This starts inconspicuous but becomes more energetic with each day open. Coiled acid and melting taffy. Aching red fruit; dripping, swirling mineral dust. Subtly sweet, then unexpectedly dry, with a powdery texture. Worthy parallel to eg bandol rose, but even more acid. — 4 months ago

Buisson Renard Pouilly- Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Bright, pale straw. Initially shy, but inviting nose of underripe quince. Echoed on the medium palate with an intense mineral streak and hints of burnt citrus rind on opening. As the wine develops in the glass, the mineral note subside and rustic fruits come to the fore. Medium plus acidity supports it all the way through to the moderate finish. This is a wine that can support the entire meal: mineral notes parallel light starters, fleshy pomes buttress the main course, and more opulent stone fruits finish with soft cheese or pastry. Rustic fare pairs particularly well. Drink now through 2028. — a year ago

Knights Valley Cabernet Franc 2007

Without question the best cabernet franc I’ve ever had from California, this is unfortunately the last bottle I have. I don’t know what happened in 2007, but Gerhard made a spectacular cab franc that has no parallel before or since (of course, the winery no longer exists - at least not in any recognizable form - but you get my meaning). Still drinking incredibly well, this was a singular achievement from what always was a WAY underrated winery. — 4 years ago

Tenuta Col d'Orcia

Olmaia Sant' Antimo Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Nice warm CabS aromatics - black fruit, a touch of herbs, a savoury, darker undergrowth edge.
On the palate this is velvety smooth. Amazing quality of tannins - sandy, dusty fine, juicy & fresh. With layers of dark, creamy, slightly plush fruit on top. Impeccably balanced and with nice depth. A minty hint of+ a touch of vanilla & spice.
Unmistakably Tuscan yet nicely Cabernet in parallel. What a lovely wine!
