Dark red fruit, bramble, cocoa powder and cola. — 8 months ago
Popped and poured; consumed over two days. Today, the 1989 Grattamacco pours a translucent light garnet color with a slightly watery rim. There is some browning around the edges. There is quite a bit of fine sediment (which some might prefer to decant off; we didn’t bother). Medium viscosity; no obvious staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is initially a bit musty, funky cherry and leathery, showing off predominately secondary characteristics. However, after 90 minutes of air it really started to brighten up and after the old musty character has lifted, the wine revealed beautiful desiccated cherries, black tea, mushrooms, leather, dry leaf tobacco, and just a touch of bell pepper. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium/medium+ acid. All of the notes from the nose are confirmed. The fruit is wizened but gives a perception of sweetness that is just lovely. The tannins are completely integrated and the acid gives everything a nice lift. The finish is long and elicits a Duchenne smile. A delightfully aged bottle with obviously super provenance (thank you Tim!). We spent several hours enjoying this wine and it only became more ruddy and seemed to gain freshness with air. Drink now and enjoy. — a year ago
With Rana lasagne. Quite good. 2019 — 4 months ago
Refosco, indigenous grape to northern Italy, Veneto to be exact. Looks promising, good label, bottle feels heavy, provenance. The nose is bright with red fruit. Young wine, aeration time absolutely necessary. It’s got good structure and acidity on the palate; fruit and nuances a bit muted thought. Don’t have experience with Refosco but my gut feeling says it would be better off, if opened several years from now. — 7 months ago
Brilliant. Perfect nose of bing cherries. Palate fully dried out / bound up giving immense volume on the palate. Coffee grounds, tropical fruit, funky unidentifiable pleasant things, and a good minute’s finish. Really lovely. Nearing end of plateau, buy only excellent provenance. — a year ago

Enjoyed on Thanksgiving Day with eldest daughter, a foodie, who agreed that this is a good value ($23 at Costco). Raspberry, chocolate, tobacco, and cinnamon with subtle tannins and a long, delicious finish. Planning to buy more. — 7 months ago
Incredible nose of blackberry jam, and soft on the palate. Tannins are light but there is a bitterness that trails at the end of the sip. Slightly spicy undertones, would pair this with bbq or Mediterranean. Loved it! — 8 months ago

Probably towards the end of its drinking window, showing fantastically though. Dark cherry and spice on the nose with notes of old leather shoes, cigar box and prunes. On the palate it retains a good tannic structure and tastes of blackberries, cherries and baking chocolate. This is fantastic. — 2 months ago
