Robert Comte

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2005

Intense and pretty with a bit of VA on the nose at first that blows off. Very pure fruit but still young and quite gnarly. Serious stuff, dark and intense. Will this ever dance lightly? I don’t know… impressive but less drinkable now that the 2000 alongside. — 4 days ago

I’m not a fan of the Millet era Vogue. Too Cabernet-like. Older ones can be mind bending.

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

This has softened considerably since my last bottle several years ago. Nose is complex, with earth, cedar, cigar box, and an incense-like note. In the mouth, it’s rich but medium-bodied. The tannins that were so prominent a few years ago have significantly resolved. Entering (finally) its drinking window. — 23 days ago

Robert Sinskey Vineyards

Los Carneros - Napa Valley Pinot Noir 2018

Small production. RSV has under 200 acres of vineyards in 5 Carneros locations & a winery in the Stags Leap District. The wines are 100% organic. Ruby with berry, cherry & spice aromas. On the palate flavors of wild strawberry & cherry with complex spice, citrus, oak and balanced acidity. Fine soft tannins, good balance, long finish with an earthy characteristic ending with notes of vanilla spice. Nice! — 15 days ago

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1987

Time to drink. Past its prime however still interesting. Blackberry, plumb with licorice. Some notes of leather along with what seemed stronger than normal alcohol. What you doing in 1987? — 20 days ago

See my prior notes. For a gnarly vintage, few complaints here. — a month ago

As rule of thumb, yes, but not always… for example, 2003’s, I don’t think I’ve tasted a good Napa wine from that vintage. This is not to say that there aren’t any good wines, just that I haven’t tasted any.
