Montecillo Vineyard Moon Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

My previous bottle of the 2014 Montecillo was enjoyed back in January of 2021. That bottle, as my previous notes indicated, exhibited quite a bit of volatile acidity. This bottle did not seem to have much VA at all. In fact, this showed well right from the moment the cork was pulled.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a game of 10 point pitch. The 2014 Montecillo pours a garnet/purple color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous, lifted notes of cassis, black berries, leaf tobacco, Anaheim peppers, Herbs de Provence, eucalyptus and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long a with spices and minerals. Really tasty and distinctive stuff. I’m in no rush to openly third and final bottle. Drink now with patience, through 2039.

Bright, clear straw color. Aromas of lemon, passion fruit, orange blossom and currants. Some minor synthetic rubber, bright lemon flavors, apricot and minerals.

Im offenausschank und vorher noch auf delectable gecheckt. Bei den noten dachte ich erst dass es nicht ganz der gleiche wein von diesem produzenten sein kann. Nach dem zweiten schluck allerdings schon! Wow! Einfach wow! Feinfruchtig, weisse blüten, birnen, etwas minze, im gaumen weich, rund, südfrüchtig mit leichter mineralität. Hut ab! — 23 days ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1975

A nice comparison of French St. Julien and French winemaker, in the US with a Napa Cab.
The 1972 vintage was one of the legendary five Cabs selected for the 1976 Paris Tasting.

This 1975, had a deep garnet color with a brick rim. Loads of blackberry on the nose, casis and earthy notes. Fruit forward, black fruit and plum dominate, nice tannins. This wine definitely evolved through the evening.

Deep ruby color. Aromas of red fruit, leather and earthy notes. Amazing flavors, blackberry, black currant, tobacco and baking spices.

Sometimes one just needs to be lucky one day and 85 year old guy showed up a the wine tasting in the store with a 1971 Mayacamas Vineyards Cab. An experience i never forget. Because of the wine and the store owner declaring me as underinformed when suggested it was in the tasting. The wine was good but fell apart within 15min.
