18 m french oak. Voornamelijk Touriga Nacional. Douro superior. Iets gesloten neus. Geconcentreerd van smaak. Kracht! — a year ago
2015 vintage. A joint venture between the Roquette (Quinta do Crasto) and Cazes (Lynch Bages) families. Only produced from the best barrels in exceptional years. Old vines of Touriga Nacional, Tina Roriz and Touriga Franca from the Douro Superior and Cima Corgo sub-regions. Black fruit and violets. Seriously powerful, but it maintains elegance, thanks to the acidity balancing the layers of fruit and ripe tannins. Long lingering finish. Impressive. Abv. 14,5 % . — 4 years ago
Just what I expect from Douro red. This has plenty of blackberry, some plum, ripe cherry, earthy notes and disty tannins. There is oak on the surface but the depth of fruit tells it will be integrated in 2-3 years of time. Great wine if you like bit darker side of Douro — 5 years ago
Superior to the 10 year Tawny. — 7 years ago
God knows what's in here but it's well rounded and deep. All of Dirk's wines are universally adored and I do t think this is any exception to that rule. Power and fruit. — 7 years ago
Citrus, floral notes and minerality. Very balanced. — 2 months ago
Expressive nose with waxy lemons, a bit of matchstick reduction, some brioche. There’s also some white peach, white flowers. Quite complex. Rich and yet fresh. Intriguing & enticing.
Beautiful texture on the palate, love the mouthfeel. Layered, quite rich, impeccably balanced & poised.
Very elegant. Slightly creamy texture balanced by racy, juicy acidity. Yellow stone fruit in the back. And a long, saline finish.
Somehow I didn’t like it a year ago, maybe it was a bad bottle.
This is really signing! — a year ago
100% Tinta Barroca, one of the most planted varieties in the Douro, where it is generally used for port blends. From a north-facing plot in Meda (Douro Superior) at 600m elevation. Fermented and aged in concrete vats. Beautiful, fragrant nose. Aromas of ripe fruit (strawberries, strawberry jam and black currant). Medium bodied, bright fruit on the palate. High acidity. — 4 years ago
Bright purple. Clearly more uptoned than the Quinta do Vallado Superior I had alongside. This is nicely balanced midweight young Douro. Raspberries, granberries red currants and cherry, some strawberry maybe on the background. This jumps nicely out of the glass and nose is far more expressive at this stage. Pop next about 4-5 years from now and you have a treat. Great stuff! — 5 years ago
This is the white Douro. 2018 vintage. A blend from 70% viosinho, 20% codega do larinho and 10% couveio. Sister and brother oenologists team. 80% of the fruit is sourced in Baixo Corgo (Poiares, 700 m altitude) and 20% in the Douro Superior (Murças, 580 m altitude). Whole cluster pressing and fermentation in stainless steel. White peach and flowers in the nose. In the mouth the juicy white peach fruit is balanced by fresh acidity and a distinctive minty finish with very good length. Amazing value at less than 12 euro. Abv. 12,5%. — 6 years ago
2017 Niepoort Branco. HB for Barry M. Not as good as the last bottle, but still delicious. Lean and fresh. — 7 years ago

My father in law picked up this gem in Lisbon in 1997 when I snagged a 1994 Fonseca Vintage port. He was looking to spend a more modest amount on a Port to bring home. WOW, what a find. Tawny in structure and color. Well balanced and just a great all around port. — 2 years ago
Field blend of Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, Viosinho, Donzelinho and Gouveio from 80 years old vines on schist soils. Vineyard on the right bank of the Douro River, in the prime Cima Corgo zone, at an altitude of 400-600 metres. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 6 months in oak. Clean, precise nose with citrus (tangerine), floral notes and and subtle oak. Fresh, linear, medium bodied, dry. Good minerality and acidity. Very tasty — 4 years ago
Breaking into a bottle from a 2019 trip to Douro. Beautiful - eggplant hued and powerful on the nose. I’m very glad I stuffed a bottle into my suitcase to bring it home. Earthiness, licorice, freshly cracked black pepper balanced with a touch of citrus and strong tannins. A perfect bottle. — 6 years ago

I brought this back with me in late 2015 on a trip to the Douro on the way to Northern Spain where @ml_private_tours and I stopped in to meet @luisaolazabal at her family's beautiful estate @quintadovalemeao in the Douro Superior. A tiny 500 cases is produced.

At 5 years of age, this is fresh as a daisy with cut and verve. Medium yellow-gold in color. The nose is fresh and reminded me of Sancerre, so Sauvignon Blanc like notes of fresh lime citrus, green apple, sweet grapefruit pith, crushed oyster shells, and a host of chopped fresh green herbs. The palate is electric, more elegant than my initial tasting note from 2015. The acidity is thunderous, a pure and crystaline palate and med+ length in the finish. At 5 years this is so pure and so young, I think it will easiy cruise on to 10 years and likely age for longer. — 7 years ago
