Kevin John Margaret River Chardonnay 2017

Lime pith swells with shallot, lemon peel and lemon-poppy bread, seashell, chive, carnation, orchids, candied grapefruit peel bouquet. Dry and enticing entry, has a Chablis like austerity, but rounder, showing chamomile and caper with lemon juiciness. .

Excellent, excellent international chardonnay; restraint but the high-toned expected aromatics cleverly crafted; meal, funk, naturalness, citrus, neat on the nose; palate matured more; brulee, nut roast, yum portion, best aspect is the citrus acid softness; #drinknow ; but window is 2013-2017. #cullen #wa #margaretriver #kevinjohn #chardonnay #biodynamic #13point5alc — 10 years ago

Cape Mentelle

Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

Margaret River; blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc; so rounded, so peachy almost possible to detect varietal traits, so the blending is impeccable; streamline of juicy, minty, contained but delectable fruit flavours, wood plays little influence as does tannin; makes it more gulpable for masses; no tannin backbone, just juicy softness; #newwave #drinkaussie #drinkwa #westernaustralia #margaretriver #capementelle #wilyabrup #cmf #AUD50 #13.5% ; Wilyabrup is a sub-region of Margaret River known for top cabernet; interesting way to name a wine. — 11 years ago

Margaret River Cabernet Benchmarking! Three big guns shone through! #FilthyNowVino Cape Mentelle at $75 was poised and layered. Cullen Diana Magdelaine had an extra edge of personality & intrigue. Miss Wood a great core of fruit, looked a little ragged today. Time should help it settle into it's skin. At about $25 the Hayshed Hill was the value wine in the pack. Ringbolts and Vasse Felix wines had a angularity and hardness about them. #CabernetSauvignon #Wine #MargaretRiver — 11 years ago

Vasse Felix

Filius Margaret River Chardonnay 2017

A pretty #margaretriver #chardonnay - aromas of yellow apple, pear and light honey notes backed by flinty minerality . Medium weight on the tongue, crisp acidity, lemon zest on the finish. There’s definitely a Burgundian character here for a reasonable ~$19 at Costco. — 5 years ago

Wills Domain

Mystic Spring Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2019

Spring is in the air and in my glass 💛 Introducing one of the recent new releases from Wills Domain Winery in WA’s Margaret River - Mystic Spring 2019 SSB (Semillon Sauvignon Blanc).

Mr Spittoon and I recently got stuck into this SSB while cooking up a BBQ dinner on the deck. Firstly I have to say, this wine is A.MAZ.ING on the nose. So vibrant and fresh. Here are our notes:

Nearly water white with a lemon tinge in the glass. On the nose it is so crisp and refreshing, think passionfruit and honeyed peaches with a fresh zest of lime and hint of florals. Those flavours glide through to the palate with a lick of Sauvy B minerality to go with it.

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #gifted #wine

Probably at its delectable best; this #margaretriver #chardonnay from #cullen ; colour with bits of brass says so; and palate has nice brulee-roast nuts; more aged fruit aromas than first stage types; acid taut keeping it medium bodied and no more; a good drink with coral trout; #kevinjohn #biodynamic #13.5% #AUD105 — 10 years ago

Wilyabrup Ribbon Vale Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Sémillon 2011

This is very sophisticated for an Aussie Bordeaux blend; from a great Margaret River vintage but horrible in many other Australian regions; no jam, no lolly, no oak intrusion; just complex earth, forest, mushroom, tobacco and terroir amalgam; palate taut and tasting of the aromas; medium body captures a fine wine; cannot but expect the positive effect of the merlot; #drinkaussie #wa #margaretriver #ribbonvale #mosswood #cabernetmerlot #2011 #bordeauxblend — 11 years ago

Lovely #chardonnay from #margaretriver it is the #benchmark for the region and Jancis Robinson tasted it blind and preferred it over Chardonnays from all around the world Top. Margaret River Chardonnay is recognizeable for its concentrated ripe fruit, high acidity and balance between the two. — 6 years ago

Margaret River Chardonnay 2010

Always have preferred Margaret River wines, especially during the Australian Dark Ages. Fresh, direct, not terribly complex...yet honestly made in a sort of late-‘80s white Burgundy vein. #stellabella #margaretriver — 8 years ago

Cape Mentelle

Margaret River Chardonnay 2009

Wow; how maturing #margaretriver #chardonnay does vary; see recent #cullen #2009 which was brassy, this gleaming green and plenty of it; #cullen restrained, this #capementelle is butch; nose power of smoke or burnt things, bottle age nose not simple, evidence of lees/ mlf from the smoke; palate chunky, lime juice, burnt toast you taste in 30 yo Eden Valley riesling; juicy smoke; rich, not terribly drying, acid taut, 13%, AUD 35, full bodied, no apparent reason for it to fade for a while; contained power. #uncorkedandcultivated #wineandfoodtours — 10 years ago
