Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

My late dad’s favorite and the vintage he was drinking just before he passed. Perfection. — a month ago

Willett Distillery

White Oak Barrel Aged 14 Years Barrel No. 8137 Straight Kentucky Bourbon

The Lowdown in T-Town. Neat = High heat but very good caramel flavors. Rich. Lingering smooth caramel; not cloying at all. Then with big rock = smooths flavors out and introduces an almost peppermint flavor(?!). Surprisingly good and interesting. Nice burn. Flavors are unique, but it’s good. Occasional sipper. — 6 months ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Les Pagodes de Cos Saint-Estéphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Château covers 170 acres separated from Château Lafite, along the southern edge, by a stream. Blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep Ruby color with aromas of ripe berry fruits and earthy spice notes. On the palate flavors of blueberry and blackberry with licorice, tobacco and toasty oak notes. Long rich finish on soft juicy tannins, drinking well and still has room to age. Very Nice second label! — a year ago

Robert Sinskey Vineyards

Los Carneros Pinot Noir 2016

Small production. RSV has under 200 acres of vineyards in 5 Carneros locations & a winery in the Stags Leap District. The wines are 100% organic. Ruby with berry, cherry & spice aromas. On the palate flavors of wild strawberry & cherry with complex spice, citrus, oak and balanced acidity. Fine soft tannins, good balance, long finish with an earthy characteristic ending with notes of vanilla spice. Nice! — 4 years ago

Côte du Py Morgon Gamay 2015

Yes! A great representation of what can become of gamay from a Cru village wine. The typical esters are there on the nose but the overall fruit and some darker tertiary flavours are present. A bit light on the palate despite the 14% but this is made up for by the long delicate spicy-flowery finish. — 6 years ago

Marqués de Riscal

Reserva Herederos del Marques de Riscal Rioja Tempranillo 2018

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Beautiful nose of black currants, plums, licorice, light oak, spices, chocolates, earth, eucalyptus and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, licorice, tobacco, herbs, earth, dark chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 7 year old Rioja is starting to drink very nicely now. Elegant and nicely balanced. Complex and entertaining.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food.

14% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$20.

A surprise addition of the night. A great blend, about 75% Cab, 14% merlot with CF and PV filling in the remainder. Plum, blackberry and fig show through nicely. Touches of vanilla. — 4 years ago

Doubleback

Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Zoom event with Drew Bledsoe and Josh McDaniels. Vertical from ‘07, ‘14, ‘15, ‘16, ‘17, ‘17 estate, and ‘18. All were exceptionally smooth and silky with good depth of fruit. Notes on the ‘18: 90% CS, 5% Malbec, 5% Merlot. Least favorite of the night. Still a good wine but perhaps a bit too young, or just different enough from the others that I liked ones with a bit more age. This wine had a little more density than the others and perhaps a little more earth and graphite coming through that masked the fruit. It still had the classic doubleback elegance of the others but I felt we were not seeing this wine’s true expression. It only had about 1 hour in the glass and perhaps I need to pull another bottle, decant for a few hours and see what it does. — 5 years ago

@Mark Turner I double decant these. How was the ‘07? And go Pats!

@Eric Urbani I thought the ‘07 was drinking great. I had several bottles over the years and it has lost some of its bravado. It was a very smooth, elegant wine but I plan to drink the remainder in my cellar over the next 2-3 years. I don’t see it holding up for another 10.

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2012

These used to be cheap - not any more 40$ for the new vintage this was 26$. Classic and super elegant. A ton of tannins left: 14%. Fermented dark olives. Dark cherries. Way better than the 2013 chianti reserva I popped for our italian dinner club. These are the wines kids should try - but hey our brillant marketing 🤡 priced them out of trying quality nebbiolo so they switch to cocktails and beer! Well done. Will go for 5-10 more years with ease. — 4 months ago
