Atavus Blanc de Noirs Pinot Noir 2014

From one of the top 3 Domestic sparkling wine makers IMO, a beautiful single vineyard and single vintage BDN showing very good precision and intensity, red currants, blood orange and red apple skin with a persistent finish and vibrant acidity. From Blue Hill at Stone Barns Cellar. — 5 years ago

Tinto Mosier Hills Tempranillo Syrah 2017

Bought at winery. Garnet red, moderately extracted pigment. Leather, tangerine and red fruit aromas. Oak and cherry flavors, slight seed bitterness, good acid, wood and somewhat gripping acid-skin astringency on finish. Drinkable now, but not sure what additional aging will get you tannin-wise. More wood dominance and less fruit? Balance among the elements now so why wait? Winery tasting notes mention fresh fig (yes, how did I miss that?) petrichor (huh? Turns out I know what this is - smell of dust or dirt after rain first falls on soil, but I didn’t pick this up in the wine) and red currant (close enough). 40/25/25/10 blend of Grenache (tangerine note), Tempranillo, Syrah (cherry) and Mencia, 228 cases produced. If you’ve never heard of Mencia, Analemma or this AVA, you have to check them out! Only one bottle to taste *sigh* Give the wine an hour for the red fruit to come out and develop length, and a better quaff at that — 4 years ago

Mosier Hills Estate Tinto

I don’t know which I like better here - the aromas or the juice itself. This tinto is just awesome.

Immediately, cork removed, I got some briar wood and unripened blackberries. 10 mins later and it’s a totally opened up and tamed beast of old leather, now ripened blackberries, and a slight nod to bacon grease.

A few sips reveal blueberry jam, more blackberries, and plenty of warm baking spices.

The acid is puckeringly fresh and smooth, slight amount of heat and plenty of lingering tannins. Excellent!
