Deep Ruby with aromas of black fruits, complex spice and notes of herbs and forest floor. On the palate subtle flavors cherry and red plum with notes of cacao, espresso and licorice. Fine tannins, adding to great mouthfeel, long finish ending with toasty cedar notes and earthy herb mineral. Good now as fruit starting to fade a bit, but still showing beauty and grace. Gorgeous, but trumped by the other whole bunch pino on the table (from Macedon, Aus). To me, it feels like an incomplete wine but BM said it just needs time. Smells and taste like a fresh ferment. Nose was floral, bunchy, brimming with juicy red fruits, and also reminded me of jujubee tea. The palate was so fresh and energetic, finish made me think of cincau/grass jelly. Looked at it over 3 days, even more floral and developed a spiciness even. Was hoping for that mineral kick. Still looks like a fresh ferment to me, but an awesome one! — 7 years ago

Quite dark color, nearly opaque, still quite amazing for a 16-year-old CdRV (Lirac), great redfruits and darkfruits, I cannot forecast how long this bottling will last (you can see the cepage in the picture), but the l’Astrolabe bottling (100% Syrah) has already shown it’s easy longevity. Biodynamic, the late Philippe Cambie and Philippe Faure-Brac (2022, Best Sommelier in the World, consulted on this wine. — 2 months ago

2020 vintage. The last vintage for this wine as it was bought from the Bécot family ( owners of Beauséjour-Bécot) by the owners of Haut-Brion in 2021. It will be incorporated into Château Quintus (which is a merger of 3 estates: Tertre-Daugay, L'Arrosée and Grand-Pontet). Many Saint-Emilion estates disappeared, incorporated into other estates, some very good wines sadly disappeared like Curé Bon La Madeleine (now into Canon), Cadet-Piola (now into Soutard) and so on. The fact that Grand Cru Classés can legally be incorporated into Premier Grands Crus Classés tells you that you have to take the classification with more than a grain of salt. A bit shy on the nose, even after a few hours. Medium-bodied, nice value for a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé. — 3 years ago

I think Denis Berthaut's impact on Fixin is invaluable. He showed how an often overlooked terrior can produce truly elegant and transparent wines. This mantra and his mantle has been passed down to his very capable daughter, Amelie, and it's been up, up, up ever since. I'm a big fan of Amelie's wines!

2013 is Amelie's first vintage and her changes are clear - more oak, stems, and supposedly warmer ferments resulted in deeper, more complex wines. And it's constantly changing as she finds her stride. This is especially obvious in this cuvee.

The 13' Les Arvelets is a little richer than their newer iterations, which is reasonable given the difficult vintage - it was a late harvest due to the rain. Darker fruit, but crystal clear. The palate's really crunchy, pure fruit, herbal elements... think cincau... deep minerality, fine fine texture, lovely acidity. In a way like Serena Williams... There's a strong nearly brutal element, yet undeniably feminine (cliché I know but oh so true) and elegant. I do prefer more recent vintages of this vineyard, but this was excellent... Such a balanced wine!

I said it before and I'll say it again... Amelie's the next big thing, if not already one. The viti is more thoughtful than ever... Winemaking so detailed and smart. The sheer potential here... Especially with her mother's Gevry, Chambolle, and Vosne vineyards now under her sleeves... And her incredibly talented fiancé, Nicolas Faure, managing the domaine's vineyeards 🔝🔝🔝 — 8 years ago

2016 vintage. Nicolas Thienpont is a great winemaker at 3 Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classés Beauséjour HDL, Pavie Macquin and Larcis Ducasse +Grand Cru Classé Berliquet + a few estates in the Côtes de Bordeaux). This Côtes de Francs is probably the most humble in his stable, but it's a very serious wine. A blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, it features a dark red colour colour with a purplish rim, a complex nose with blueberry and strawberry fruit, flowers and cocoa powder. The fruit is packed in a tight ripe tannic structure, with balancing acidity and serious length. I would recommend to give this overachiever a few years of bottle age. Abv. 14,5%. Great value at 12,90 euro. — 6 years ago
