Château Larrivet Haut Brion

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (47%), Merlot (47%) and Cabernet Franc (6%). Dark ruby color with a few purple highlights. Savory aromas of burnt wood, asphalt, black fruit, smoky oak and purple flowers. Flavors of cooked blue and black berries, espresso, mushrooms, cassis and oolong tea. Long and smoky finish. Nicely balanced and extremely concentrated. Smooth tannins and quite the powerhouse. Heading past its prime but still extremely drinkable. Thank you for sharing this incredible wine, Kasey and Pete. — 6 days ago

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

This was quite pleasant. While a bit too young, this opened up to a lovely wine full of fitness and structure. Black olive and green pepper dominated this young wine with cassis and strong tannins id wait 5-7 uearsto try again. — 20 days ago

Pessac-Léognan White Bordeaux Blend 2020

Château Larrivet Haut-Brion – 2020
Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux – France 🇫🇷

Overview
This white Bordeaux is built on the classic backbone of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and (often) a dash of Muscadelle. What makes this cuvée stand out is the use of egg-shaped concrete vats for fermentation and aging — these facilitate a gentle, natural stirring of the lees and preserve freshness without imparting oak character.

Aromas & Flavors
Tropical notes, citrus zest, white blossoms, and a soft mineral streak. The influence of the egg vats gives it a rounded texture without harsh edges.

Mouthfeel
Silky yet crisp — the texture is elegant, clean, and balanced. The finish lingers with refreshing clarity.

Food Pairing
Fantastic with seafood (oysters, scallops), grilled fish, or creamy goat cheese.

Verdict
One of my favorite Pessac-Léognan whites — this expression marries Bordeaux structure with modern winemaking finesse. Great value and beautifully made. Cheers!
📌 Did You Know?
Egg-shaped concrete vats create a “micro-vortex” during fermentation, gently stirring the wine and keeping lees suspended. That subtle movement adds texture and complexity without the overt influence of oak — a technique growing in popularity among modern Bordeaux blancs.

Pessac-Léognan Cru Classe des Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

1990 vintage. Top shoulder fill. Nearly completely saturated cork. Durand used to open. Not decanted. Tasted 2 hours after opening. Light-medium body. WOTD just barely over the 1990 Château Margaux. More of a LMHB than Margaux fan so we'll call it a draw. Beautiful star anise nose and flavor component evident. Based on this sample, this could easily roll another 5-6 years before downshifting. 11.21.25. — 21 days ago

@Paul T HB that 1990 Montrose ain't no love song/ballad. It's still Norwegian death metal. Steer clear of that bad boy if you want a smooth anni celebration. One of the few aged wines I've ever had that prompts a "I should probably floss" thought process.

I appreciate it. It’s not really a celebration but a personal day to remember my wife who I lost last year unexpectedly. But I will not stop my 1990 bottle search’s

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion

'Le C des Carmes' Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. Picked up for roughly $35 at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA. Light-medium body. Ever so slight metallic taste initially which quickly blew off. Dark fruits with plenty of earth and focused finish. In a bit of transition now and just on this side of being a tough customer for a spell before things work out. Try to give it 3-4 years if you're able. 11.8.25. — a month ago
