This is our first experience with Aubert and a fantastic one at that!
We’ve read so many rave reviews for Aubert Chardonnay. We had to seek it one out and the holidays are the perfect time to pop one of these special wines.
Aubert is an artisanal winery in Calistoga (Napa Valley). Proprietors Mark and Teresa Aubert seek to produce a product of the land, crafted with limited intervention, showcasing the beauty of Napa Valley terroir, in this case, the amphitheater-shaped Powder House Vineyard.
This wine represents a confluence of nature, farming, and craftsmanship.
It is medium lemon in color with medium (+) intensity of aromas and flavors, including glazed white peach, nectarine, apricot, ripe mango, melon, lemon curd, apple blossom, caramel, butterscotch, cream, vanilla, nutmeg, toast, struck match, wet stones, and chestnut.
On the palate this wine is dry and has a generous mouthfeel – it’s full bodied – with high alcohol and medium (+) acidity, lending balance. In sum, it’s rich, complex, and delicious. A perfect symmetrical pairing with pan-seared sea bass. — 2 years ago
Liguria is a coastal region in Italy, nestled in the northwestern corner of the country, hugging the Ligurian Sea, with steep mountains defining the landscape.
It offers an ideal mix of warm, dry conditions, moderating influences from the coast and varying altitudes, and nutrient-poor soils (which is good for vine growing!). However, its dramatic topography limits the amount of wine that can be produced from this region…
With that background, we were thrilled to be sipping a glass of this beautiful Ligurian white wine made from the Vermentino grape. What a pleasure to envision us sitting on a terrace overlooking the sea!
Leaping out of the glass was tangerine peel, grapefruit, green apple, passion fruit, pineapple, boxwood, white citrus blossom, elderflower, and wet stone -- a delicious confluence of pronounced fruit and floral aromas and flavors.
It was vibrant, youthful, and fresh, yet also concentrated and juicy, adding a level of richness to the mouthfeel.
Lvnae, Colli di Luni D.O.C., Vermentino, ABV 12.5. Vintage 2019. A fantastic value at $25 / bottle.

Magnificent legs and a translucent ruby red hue that captures the “Confluence” of the Anderson Valley at its best! The fragrance enhances this Pinot Noir with fresh notes of raspberries, ripened black cherries, red currant and wet, soft shale. On the palette, sweet red raspberries followed by sugared black cherries, oak and subtle spices. The finish comes with some effervescence on the tongue with velvety tannins and a well-balanced finish! — a year ago
This Barbaresco, made exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape, hailing from Piedmont, Italy, offers a confluence of fruit, herb, and spice characteristics. It was aged in Slavonian oak for 2-3 years prior to release.
It has a medium ruby hue, garnet rim variation, and noticeable tearing.
On the nose, this wine has a medium intensity of youthful aromas. Aromas include primary notes of cherry, blackberry, cassis, also potpourri, black licorice, dried oregano, and secondary notes of clove, nutmeg, coriander, cedar, and tertiary notes of leather, wet earth, and sweet tobacco.
On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium acidity(+), a medium(+) body, high alcohol, medium(+) tannins, and medium intensity of concentrated flavors consistent with the nose. Flavors include primary notes of cherry, blackberry, cassis, also potpourri, black licorice, dried oregano, and secondary notes of clove, nutmeg, coriander, cedar, and tertiary notes of leather, wet earth, and sweet tobacco. The finish is medium.
This wine is balanced, complex, and has great concentration in aromas and flavors. It remains youthful but takes on some tertiary notes not necessarily due to age.
