Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Deep garnet with terracotta . Quite rich concentrated nose , slightly roasted spicy , oaky nose, cassis , dark plum , quite rich and dense. Slightly sweet on the palate , but with red plum , spiced orange rind , cassis , cacao . A bit alcoholic on the palate too. Quite rounded , but gritty tannins and just balanced acidity . Slightly Foursquare on the finish , with spiced cherry , cacao . Drink now and over the next 5 years or so . — a day ago

Elivette Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2018

Classic. Treasure found at the local wine shop for a deal. Beautiful Napa cab nose full of blue/darkfruit. You notice the blend on the palate - cab franc, petit verdot, merlot and a bit of malbec. Just really well put together. Going to venture out and get more tomorrow. — 22 days ago

@Paul K Yes, tasted some of the new project from there but didn’t like it enough to put in my notes. I’d hold off taking the plunge for another year or two. Pick up a handful of bottles in the market/online, reevaluate the next two vintages and then take the plunge or route the $$$ elsewhere depending on the results.

Oak Knoll District Dry Riesling 2023

Bright silver/gold color. Aromas of lemon candy, apple, white flowers and lime. Expressive flavors of lemon, tropical fruit, Granny Smith apple and peaches. Hint of fresh herbs on the medium-plus finish. Mouth watering acidity and excellent balance. Pleasant mouthfeel and aftertaste. So flavorful, bold and well crafted. Heard very good things about Trefethen Dry Riesling and I am glad I finally tried it. Unique Riesling style. — a month ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

March 1st. I opened this one 5 years too soon but a beautiful Cab even as a “baby.” Velvety mouthfeel. Nuanced. Everything I love about Togni. — 7 hours ago

Oak Knoll District Chardonnay 2023

Beautiful and light on its feet. Dry - very well made! Fantastic fruit. Very fresh. Honey. Meyer lemon, mandarine, just a faint touch of 1,1,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalene (TDN) aka Diesel. Touch bitter on the back palate. As a chemist i just had to bring this up. At 24 suns in Oceanside. 2 Michelin Chefs cooking. Grab this bargain before it is gone!!!!!! — 20 hours ago

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

S.L.V. Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1990

Opened a couple hours prior and served double-blind. The wine pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core moving towards a slightly tawny rim; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of desiccated and ripe fruits: cassis, brambles, pipe tobacco, old leather bound books, dried mixed flowers, warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and rich. Initial conclusion is this is a Bordeaux-style blend from the United States or France but I felt this leaned more towards the quality of the fruit. So I called Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from the United States, California, Napa Valley, 1986. Whoa…just about nailed it. This is showing very well. Drink now through 2030. — a month ago

@Tom Casagrande it’s always risky to call something that old when most people don’t bring these types of wines to tasting group…but you gotta trust the evidence in the glass. If I’m wrong, then I learned something 😊

Cain Vineyard & Winery

Cain Five Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2011

A Burgundian-styled Cab Sauv from the one of the most compelling Sub AVA of Napa mountains (Mayacamas) which has an amazing soil and solid influence from the Pacific. Crafted with an amazing balance of 68% Cab Sauv, 20% Merlot, 5% and the rest to round it off its structure and age ability. The 2011 is still climbing to its peak. Enticing notes of dry red fruits on the nose and mouth, delicate, outstandingly silky and nearly perfect balance!
The finish shows its beauty. (if you find it, it won’t disappoint you) it will give the run for the money.

Hugo’s Cellar has a great wine list! This one is a more fruit forward Cab, but not one that overpowers filet. — 18 hours ago
