Raspberry fruit with tertiary development showing good Volnay can age well. This is great. 2009 — 2 months ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2008 Special Club pours a straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing and somewhat shy but there’s citrus, white peach, brioche and a rather fascinating smell that reminded me of a built-up roof. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose however here, it’s much richer and expansive. The finish is long. Young? Probably. Drink now through 2038. Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Fruity on the nose, and medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.
Showing plums, red currants, cherries, earth, black coffee, light wood, spices, tobacco leaf, dark chocolates, black tea, bitter herbs and peppercorn.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.
This 5 year old Cincalt /Grenache blend is already drinking nicely. Complex and interesting. Spicy and soft.
Elegant and fruit forward with nice compliments of the earth notes.
Needs 3 hours in the decanter to open up properly, so be patient.
Easy drinking and elegant. Would be interesting to try it again in 5 years.
A blend of 50% Cinsault, 40% Grenache and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in French Oak barrels for 6 months.
14% alcohol by volume.
92 points.

Here we have the Benoit Lahaye ‘Blanc de Noirs’ – a non-vintage white bubbly made with 100% Pinot Noir, representing a blend of two parcels in Bouzy (Vaux-Bétins & Raies Tortues), each contributing a unique personality to the cuvée.
Harking back to more traditional winemaking methods, it was barrel-fermented naturally & bottled without filtration.
It has a pale gold hue w/ expressive aromas & flavors of baked red apple, cider, raspberry, fruit cake, lemon curd, cherry blossom, toast, clove, cinnamon, pastry, almond paste, and nougat next to chiseled mineral & wet stone notes.
With an ‘extra brut’ dosage (5g of sugar/L), this wine is bone dry, with a fine-beaded, creamy mousse, that is nicely balanced by a racy acidity. It has a kinetic energy & persistent finish. It’s absolutely delicious.
Who ever said you can’t sip bubbles on a Monday night?
I believe every day is worth celebrating in one form or another. Plus, this counts as studying for our WSG Champagne Masters class. Also, it’s Eiffel Tower Day!!
