Inky in color with a purplish rim.

Pretty nose with lots of black fruits, chocolates and cedar notes.

Full-bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, chocolates, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, herbs, earth and black pepper.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and pomegranates.

This is a delicious Cabernet Franc from Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. Rich and extracted, elegant and fruit forward. Nicely balanced with nice complexity, and a soft mouthfeel.

Still young, and needs a few more years in the bottle to mature properly, but already very approachable. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. Will pair nicely with Lamb dishes.

100% Cabernet Franc grapes were aged in (67% new) French Oak barrels for 21 months. Unfiltered and unfined.

Total sleeper: while the label simply says ‘Syrah’, the reality in the making of it is that it’s a co-fermentation of 85% Syrah from some of Bedrock’s prized vineyards and (about) about 15% Viognier. And man does it work- particularly for the price.

So, this had nice fruit but it lacked depth & character. Especially, for a 2019. Most 19 Napa Cabernets or blends have shown me more. Also, would have expected to see more integration of what is there.

On a another note, I took the top right picture of their estate Merlot on 7/11/26. This is the furthest advancement of veraison in early July of Merlot in all my yrs. Or, in July period. This is what happens when you have a very warm tail-end of winter and warm Spring. It was 95 for many days in March while it was technically still Winter. 👀 😳. I have lived in Ca a long time and have never seen 95 in mid March. Climate change is real. It is likely they pick this August 10-15. Do not recall that ever happening either. — 3 months ago

Actually a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (77%), Merlot (12%), Malbec (5%), Cabernet Franc (4%) Petite Verdot (2%). Dark ruby color with some purple highlights. Aroma of ripe black fruit, violets, cedar and burnt caramel. Flavors of black berry/currant/plum fruit, black tea, savory herbs and spices. Very hipster tattoo styled label. 52% Petite Verdot, 25% Cab Sauv, 23% Malbec. Dark, dark maroon color. Aroma is gravel and molasses. Maybe a hint of berry. Flavors are beefy and big. Lots of dried black cherry. Some molasses. Tannins are well represented. Has that classic Matchbook herbal streak. This went well with the lamb and mushroom dish I made. A great blend. This ancient vineyard (planted from 1888 - 1895) carries roughly 26-29 varieties (who knows…?). The wine usually comprises about 50% of Zinfandel, also quite some Carignan, Mataro, Syrah and Petite Sirah. Furthermore, there are dollops of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Bouschet, Peloursin, Trousseau, Calmette… Just to name a few. The label proudly proclaims that this particular vintage was the 127th (!) year of existence of these vines and 19 different variaties were included in the blend.
When poured in a glass I notice a bright ruby semi-translucent colour with no signs of aging. A beautiful nose of dark fruit (cassis and plum), peppery oriental spice, vanilla, cigar, cedar, toasty oak and a hint of orangepeel.
The palate has sufficient acidity, medium-plus tannines and a long and distinguished finish.
A great wine, drinking at its peak.
