What a pretty wine. Gorgeous and grapey nose, spice, white pepper, jelly donut filling, and just so clean and vivid. Cesare has the touch. Palate is lush and juicy, with gorgeous fruit and such a subtle way about it. Really fine tannins and such incredible balance and delicacy. Such a sneaky persistent finish. This is so refined. I am blown away. What a wine. — 3 years ago

The best Barolo I ever had! Tar and roses. Half a bottle, but still packs a tannins bite. — 5 years ago
Gorgeous vintage that captures the more delicate and floral side of Barbera. This needed a bit of time but after tasting on the 3rd day I was very taken by its lovely aromatics, bright red fruits and silky texture. There is an almost Pinot Noir-like finesse going on here that is highly appealing. Black cherries, purple flowers and dusting of sweet baking spices. Definitely some French oak coming through but it is very finely integrated. Very silky tannins and a sense of delicacy that belies the 14.5% ABV. A real winner that I would highly recommend for food pairing or for simple and pure enjoyment. — 8 years ago
Fascinating side by side with the Pio Cesare ornato 2000. This had an unusual amount of sweet cherry fruit and was a new world bright contrast to the pio cesare. I really enjoyed this. The ornato is supposed to be more new world but it was very old world to me in contrast to the la spinetta barbaresco. — 9 years ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2021 “Del Comune de La Morra” pours a brilliant garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and redolent with bright, fresh red fruits: framboise, Morello cherry, freshly paved asphalt, trampled rose petals, a kiss of VA, and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A wine you just want to smell for an eternity. Brilliant. This enjoys a lot of air and I expect will have a very long life. Drink now with patience through 2061. Thanks @Lyle Fass for the assist! — 6 months ago

Popped and poured, consumed over two days and was consistent throughout though it did seem to gain power on Day 2. I believe that Cesare sources his fruit from Roberto Voerzio’s holdings in Fossati but I don’t know that for certain; perhaps @Lyle Fass can confirm that for me. The 2018 “Fossati” from Cesare Bussolo, pours a bright, luminous garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity and no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is incredibly expressive and immediately noticeable on the pour. Notes of red and black fruits: Luxardo cherry, blackberries with fresh Colorado peaches, roses (loads of roses), dried green herbs, orange zest, dusty earth, and faint baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry and with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. There’s a lovely, firm texture to this wine and it comes across juicy which is really quite compelling. Alcohol is medium+ and comes across a little hot for my liking but I don’t find it distracting. All of the notes from the nose are confirmed with a long, dry and slightly bitter tannic finish. This is my first experience with Cesare Bussolo’s eponymous Barolo and I’m intrigued, particularly considering my impression is based off a 2018. I wouldn’t hesitate to drink now if you’re going to allows some significant air otherwise this will show better after 2025 and likely drink well through 2038 and likely well beyond that.

unconventional, earthy, very wild!! vaille, walnut, ripe apple, mild truffle or mushroom… extremely invigorating and very very long overwhelming taste… enthusiastic about the next level
2 week carbonic maceration, spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak with indigenous yeasts

I’m a sucker for Ornato but this was so awkward for an hour, warming from cellar temp and getting some air at 17 years young. After 90 min decant (+airation) powerful nose of blood red🌹and asphalt, not a single hard edge on the big but light and round gem, bloody beautiful, feminine leather and sour 🍒. Finish went on forever with just a twinge of drying tannins suggesting it’s time to drink these. Best news: I have 3 more. — 5 years ago
Wow, what a nice surprise. I see that Gilman gave this a 77. Totally opposite experience for me. Youthful, expressive and a close 2nd for my WOTN and probably for the group as well. I really don’t have experience with older Nebbiolo but would be happy if they all showed like this. — 9 years ago
Sparkling, clear pale lemon; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and tertiary aromas of bruised yellow apples, honeysuckle, and orange blossom; on the palate, it's sweet with medium acidity, low alcohol, medium body, and pronounced primary and tertiary flavors of overripe pear, tangerine, and caramel with a long finish. This wine is complex, intense, and balanced. Overall, I rate this wine as outstanding. Nellie likes it with too. It paired well with spicy Popeyes chicken. — 6 months ago
incredible complexity, delicious bright natty vibes but super drinkable, minerality and barrel flavors come alive — a year ago
50% blend each of estate reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Approachable on opening with dark cherry and some spice on the nose. The palate is earthy with dark cherry, blackberry, and a bit of huckleberry tartness tossed in for mouthwatering effect. There is an underlying earthiness with dried leaves and undergrowth that grows with a moderately long finish. Lots of layers to this. I could mistake this for an old world wine with the exception that this has the California denseness of flavors. — 3 years ago
Deliciously peachy. — 5 years ago
Pio Cesare Cortese di Gavi DOCG 2018: Sad to hear of the passing of legendary wine visionary Pio Boffa however last night I opened this bottle as a celebration of life! It was crisp & dry with bright acidity and great depth & flavor. Notes of citrus, green apple, pear & honey. Light minerality on the finish. Cheers & thank you to Pio 🍷🍷 — 5 years ago
1965. Birth year wine on birthday. Pronounced nose, weak in the middle, tired at the finish. But enough about me, the wine was great. Interesting at first with ripe strawberry, cherry, forest floor, cedar notes, long finish. After opening up bell pepper flavors emerged, which was fine but others may not like. I enjoy these old bottles made by the Mondavi family, this one signed by Cesare. Enriches the experience to know you are drinking an historic, old wine made by an iconic family. — 8 years ago

"Odedi"
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Soft nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing cherries, currants, blueberries, light oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth and spices.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This Single Vineyard Barolo is starting to drink beautifully now, but still very young. Elegant, tangy and nicely balanced. Complex and entertaining.
Needs a couple of hours to open up properly. Soft and smooth, once it opens up.
Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 7 years and see how it evolves.
A great sipping wine that I really enjoyed with food too.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
