Beautiful Dao red — meaty and earthy yet refined. It took some time to breathe but delicious with my Christmas Eve meal.
This winery also makes great Portuguese olive oil. — 3 months ago
Wonderfully rich Garnacha that was tasted alongside of the sister wines from Priorat and Rioja. — 4 months ago
Saddle leather, pencil lead, fresh, crisp red fruit aromatics and flavors, the leather notes run throughout but do not show barnyard or Brett, great balance and acidity, long, lingering finish, I just love Colares, amazing the depth and length this shows at 11.0% ABV!! — a month ago
Always fun to explore an indigenous varietal from Spain - especially when Alvaro Palacios is involved. I found this Mencia wine to be medium bodied with good acidity and structured tannins that were present in this young wine but not obnoxiously so. The fruit is darker dried red fruit that proved to be a good compliment with grilled shishito peppers. It was so nice to dive into a new aspect of Spain’s wine history. — 3 months ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2020 “Pétalos” pours a deep purple color with a magenta rim and an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with ripe and tart black fruits: blackberries, black cherry, salmiakki, horse blanket, and mixed earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A crazy, ambitious wine that’s the result of assembling over 300 plots. Between Raúl Perez and Palacios, Mencia doesn’t get much better. Drink now through 2030. — 5 days ago
